I'm not sure if anyone post this but here you go. Mavericks in the hunt for Gortat In free agency, you never know for sure where you stand until you get an agreement in principle and, eventually, signatures on the dotted line. But indications are that the Mavericks have bolted to the lead in the Marcin Gortat derby, if there ever was such a thing. Gortat is the 6-11, unrestricted free-agent center who played for Orlando the last two seasons. He averaged 3.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in the playoffs while playing behind Dwight Howard. But in the one game he started against Philadelphia when Howard was suspended, Gortat had 11 points and 15 rebounds in 40 minutes. The native of Poland has become one of the hottest free agents in the league with Houston and San Antonio also hot for him. The Mavericks aren't saying anything about whether they are on the brink of an agreement with Gortat. He likely would cost the entire mid-level exception (about $5.5 million for the first year). If that were stretched out five years, the deal would be worth more than $30 million. Sounds like a lot, until you realize Gortat is only 24 and that the total money would be less than half of what they paid Erick Dampier, who is in the last year of his deal. The interesting aspect, if the Mavericks do corral Gortat, is that it would mean they could trade Dampier as part of a package, perhaps with Jerry Stackhouse, and they still would have the center position accounted for. --Eddie Sefko http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2009/07/mavs-in-the-hunt-for-gortat.html Damn you Dallas
I get the feeling that Cuban just waits to see who Morey likes and then jumps in with a bigger offer. He goes to all of those stats conferences and probably realizes how much more Morey knows.
I love Cuban's enthusiasm, but when is he going to learn. They have a decent core of players, but now they are going to throw the Full Mid Level at Gorat and sign Kidd for 3 more years at 7 to 8 per. There goes any cap space for next year. And if they do trade Dampier and Stackhouse for another star, does Dirk, Howard, Gortat and Kidd plus a superstar really put them in the top 3 with the Lkaers, Cleveland and Orlando. Even with Terry coming off the bench, not sure that team can beat Denver in a 7 game series. Man he needs to stop chasing, they are going to have an 80 million dollar payroll again this year
you know this makes a lot of sense not saying the mavs or any other team will solely make personnel decisions based on what another teams GM does but if a teams GM has a history of making smart shrewd moves than it does serve yourself to imitate/follow that GM's lead isnt Ryan Hollins still under contract for the mavs? that would force them to have a 3 man center rotation. I doubt anyone takes Dampier off their hands. Hollins showed a lot of improvement last year and they probably will want to keep him since he is cheap.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Gortat must not break the proud tradition of Polish Rockets. Piatkowski Lampe Gortat
GORANT IS NOT WORTH 5-6 MILLION A YEAR...PERIOD. HE PLAYED 10-12 MINUTES A GAME? WHAT STAR BIG MAN DID HE PLAY AGAINST IN THE EAST? I WOULD JUST ASSUME SIGN THE LEADING REBOUNDER/SHOT BLOCKER IN THE NBDL... HELL GIVE DORSEY A SHOT....STOP OVERPAYING SCRUBS! HE AVG 3+ ppg AND 4+ RPG....THAT IS NOT WORTH 5-6 MILLION...
we need to trade a healthy TMAC for Dampier and Stakehouse. I want to see Mavs go through what we did...
