How long until the Mavs get buyers remorse? What makes Parson's deal so hard to swallow is not the dollar figure, it's that damn player option. If he has an off year, he's yours for two more. If he's on fire, he's gone in an instant. It's like a marriage, but instead of for better or for worse, it's for worse or for nothing.
Unless Parsons really falls down the stairs or suffers a career-changing injury, it's a safe bet he opts out because of the huge cap increase that year.
I would argue that if he has an off year he doesn't. His numbers aren't as bad as the mavs fans are making it seem, but he's making more than Ellis, Dirk and even Tyson Chandler and yet he's still putting up similar (if not slightly worse) numbers he put up with Dwight and Harden. The mavs even admit they overpaid a bit to get him, why would another team then overpay on what the mavs already overpaid? With the cap spiking up, determining fair market value will be hard, and that might be the way Parsons gets paid even more in spite of having a weak stretch. I think still, the safe bet for him if his numbers go down is to exercise his option. For a team to be on the hook for that is painful. All this assumes business does not pick up for Parsons. I think he will get his crap together, but that what if game is rather fun to play.
His salary for 2016/17 is "only" $16MM. If he's so terrible that he can't get a multi-year deal for $35-40MM with the cap blowing up to 90MM+, oh well. IMO, he will bolt the Mavs after a two-year stint.

But BimaThug was saying on a recent podcast that GM's are giving up on their new plans based on a projected salary cap increase and going back to old assumptions. http://rockets.clutchfans.net/7964/rockets-trades-depth-issues-david-weiner/ around 7:30
Giving up on what? Whether the increase is graduated or sudden, the salary cap in 2016 will increase and I expect a multi-year deal will trump $16MM.
Deng, Stephenson (Stephenson's kind of playing like crap but he might do better in Dallas and is on a team friendly deal, and they already had one in place for him in case the Rockets matched Portions).
What does the cap increase have to do with anything? Yes teams will have more money to spend but nobody says they have to spend it on Chandler Parsons, why will he opt out of 1 year at the max when if he continues his current production he's not worth the max? What's preventing him from making the max one year and then signing a multi year deal the next?
Parsons has been stuck in a r****d offense since he came into the league. It will take time for him to adapt to one of the best/2nd best coach in the NBA and his offense.
