I am no Mavericks fan- but I really admire the way they pick up absolutley unknown entities who actually get playing team in a team that is pretty deep. When it was Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels- it was a fluke but they have done a great job with Mbenga, Rawle Marshall, Josh Powell ( especially the last two). Of course they make dumb mistakes like Dampier- but then if there is something that rockets can do which really would be nice is to get talent like this on board. Anyway we dont use a rotation deeper than 8-9 players- I hope that we reserve 3 spots ( with team options and take a shot) worst case we have bench players who dont cost us a fortune. And these guys will be hungry to prove themselves. We found 2 decent palyers- Keith Bogans and Chuck Hayes- if they can work on their offense and be consistent that would be a big help.
They have picked up good young perimeter players, at just the right time. The league is going to more of a perimeter oriented game, and the Mavs recognized that, and moved that way. The Rockets still need to adjust. DD
S.A. and Dallas has awesome scouts. Look at Howard, Daniels, Parker, Ginobili. Udrih, and the list goes on and on.
Damp was a premature acquisition because they were worried about Yao becoming dominant and they wanted to be able to contend with him the best way possible. At the time they signed Damp, he was coming off his best year ever in the NBA. Why they didn't use amnesty on him instead of Finley is beyond me.
Yeah, gotta give the spurs credit as well. Maybe our Euro will end up a player as well. But, you gotta give us credit for Yao.
YAO? Did it really require a decision to be made- other than negotiating with the Chinese Basketball warlords!
You gotta be kidding me. Damp is way more valuable than Finley at this point. Finley is an outside jump shooter who can get hot and can get very cold. He never drives to the hoop anymore and the only free throws he gets are at the end of games with intentional fouls and technicals. Decent big men are hard to find and Damp does an adequate job. Rockets fans are just spoiled as far as big men are concerned.
Geeze, isn't it so obvious? Without Dampier, who do they have to plug in the middle? Dirk doesn't play inside. It is better than nothing.
They don't seem to think so since they're starting Diop over Dampier. However, they didn't have Diop the year they signed Dampier and I'm going to assume nobody in the Mavericks organization has a crystal ball that shows them who they'll sign next year.
I've read somewhere, that some nerd created some software to help you pick up players with potential. Cuban believed in him and paid money to use that little program, obviously with success.
