    only 27 years old

franchise QB stuck in a bad situation. So yea

if teams can win with Joe Flacco and Russell Wilson, then we definitely can win with Stafford

The guy has the most laser-rifle arm I have ever seen. And he's not nearly as much of a knuckle-head as Mallett.

The real problem with bringing him here is two-fold:

    1. As everybody has already noted, his salary is really big. This harms our ability to improve the team in other areas.

And 2. Along those lines - this team is almost as bad as Detroit, so bringing him here would probably not do either him or us a whole lot of good.

We need DRAFT PICKS TO BE GOOD, NOT VAPOR-WARE.

Once we get some of that foundation solidified, THEN we would look at a FA qb, if we are still unsettled at QB by that time.

but how does bringing stafford here effect our draft picks? it's not like by bringing in stafford we all of a sudden lose our draft picks. and we still have to draft well, stafford or no.

At some point this god forsaken franchise needs to make an actual commitment to improving the qb situation. bring in stafford, let savage develop if you think he has the potential or draft a qb in the 1st or 2nd and go to work.

if rick smith isn't on the phone trying to deal for stafford he's a ******* idiot. hell he's an idiot regardless but at least he could start redeeming himself.

Stafford is a native Texan...I think he just needs a change of scenery..I really think a Stafford to Hopkins combo would be dope...Although i dnt ever think our franchise would take the risk...If i were the GM i would definitely give the Lions a call

Stafford over what we have now? Absolutely without question. Sure his career arc may have peaked, but lets not forget dude had passing seasons for over 5000 and 4900 yards and 41 and 29 TD's just a few years ago.

He's been on a crappy team and I would say hes better than any QB the Texans have had. He may just need a new place. The Drew Brees career arc to 27 years old comparison is spot on.

i say we go for it. we aren't going to find a franchise QB in the bargain bin. Stafford belongs in Texas like Murphy Rd & 90

Depending on the price for him, if I was Rick Smith, I'd definitely consider it. Nothing's a guarantee in the draft, and while the draft COULD have someone better than Stafford, I think it's better to go with Stafford if the price isn't too high. The Texans have other needs aside from QB, and to get a solid QB like Stafford in his prime would be just what this team needs.

I'm not saying Stafford is elite or anything, but he can easily be what Schaub was during his prime if not better under this offense. We could focus on getting a safety or ILB which is much needed or a 2nd WR or even an RB. But again, depends on the price. I really don't know what an ideal price would be given his contract.

3rd and 4th round picks. It'd kill the salary cap and it'd take some magic to make it work and field a team but it is definitely doable. Stafford's cap hit for the next two years is about 22 million per year.

    Salary for 2016 is $124,230,128.
Salary cap for 2016 is $150,000,000
    Cap space is $25,769,872

    Notable Texans Free agents are:
Lechler, Washington, Crick, Simon, Demps, Bouye, and Grimes.

I would see if Stafford is willing to re-work the deal though. Maybe add an extra year or two to his contract.

I've actually mentioned this before about a week ago.

Stafford would be awesome here. Nuk would be the next prime Megatron. He's truly be Optimus Prime. Stafford's deep ball and Nuk's big play catchability? It's a wrap.

worthy of attention or notice. You would need considerable investments to resign or replace them. When you are about $5 mil from the cap, those count.

That's his cap hit for the Lions. If he's traded or cut/claimed then his new team isn't responsible for his bonus money. Therefore his cap hits are $17M and $16.5M.

Which is about twice as much as I'd be comfortable paying him.

You can put Matt Ryan or Tom Brady on this roster and the team will still have the same results. The QB is not the problem, the O line is terrible and the defense hasn't been good either. Those two things are the Texans reasons they're bad this year.
