I watched the video and agree with much of what it cites and already had heard of much of what it cites. I could've done without the polemics and the appeal to Occupy at the end.
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have become the default comment for conservatives losing any argument on race. But... but... Al Sharpton! It's very Godwin's Law'ish.
I wonder how irked conservatives would feel if we make Palin the go to "Look conservatives are half-wit morons" spokeswoman for the conservative movement. Token Black - "Jesse Jackson is not the Emperor of black people."
This is why I hate the... "But this group were slaves too!" argument that is always used to tell black people to 'Get over it.' because black people, as in people with dark skin and curly hair...were the only people to be enslaved because of their race. It creates that attitude that is mentioned in the video here of "Well, I'm poor but at least I'm not black." that poor whites and just poor non-black people can have. But this video for me didn't teach me anything new. I remember mentioning this in another thread not even that long ago. The other part of the video about the caste system is a 'Pretty much' for me.
Yes I agree that the issue of slavery affects pretty much everyone and has also distracted and divided white America from class issues.
Interesting if all the other people that are interested in discussing and ending racism will pop up into the thread and/or discuss the video? Doubt it, likely are fine with the way things are just as a lot of people in America were completely cool with segregation as it happened.
Race baiters are our masters...the master baiters. What's indisputable is the beginning which alludes to Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. Free to read here btw. Great discussion for both sides of the spectrum... There's more I want to discuss because I don't totally agree with the conclusion at the end but too sleepy.
That's changed Jay... That was back in the day when they could lynch black folks and would have a picnic and bring the entire family to see. New ball game now... But 50% poor and low income is something to pay attention to... It's becoming a crime and color doesn't matter. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/homelessness-now-crime-cities-throughout-u-s/ The ruling elite has ALWAYS used manufactured racism and entertainment (like religion and sports _ gladiators = boxers, baseball players, football players, basketball players, etc) to keep people divided and distracted... That's the only way a small minority can have a majority of the wealth and control the majority of the people. American citizens don't have rights, they have privileges that can be taken away with an executive order... And privileges are what children, slaves, and prisoners get.
Great video, however it would have been even more powerful if it would have made more than a passing mention of Amerindians. As bad as it has been for Africans in the U.S., the native populations struggle doesn't have an equal. #nativelivesmatter.
The video does nothing other than try to cover up the advantages of being white. Dude in the video easily had "upward mobility" is probably a millionaire using this propaganda.
All you need to know that this guy is a fraud cashing in on a "please stick your head back in the sand people of color" bs.
