I might be wrong but I think in standoffs(such as this) the people that show up(taking over from the regular local police) and wait for the suspect to do something(or step in and force his hand) are SWAT teams. I figure the Houston SWAT team came in and took over, but I may be wrong.

I used to live at the apartments right next to that neighborhood. It looked like a pretty nice neighborhood. I remember seeing SWAT team drills at the military recruitment center (by the 24 hr fitness at Louetta and Kuykendahl) out of my bedroom window, completely freaked me out the first time I saw one. My buddy who still lives there said there were helicopters and news trucks everywhere. Crazy and horribly sad stuff, what a tragedy.

[rQUOTEr]According to documents read in magistrate court Thursday morning, the 15-year-old girl said Haskell knocked on the door of the family’s dressed as a FedEx worker. He asked for her parents, but she said they weren’t home.

Haskell left, then returned a short time later and knocked on the door again. She told him once again that her parents were not home. Once Haskell told her his name, the girl said she recognized that he was her “ex-uncle” and tried to close the door.

The teen said Haskell then kicked the door in and tied her up. When the rest of the family returned home, he tied them up as well and laid them face-down on the floor.

He asked where his wife was, and when they told him they did not know, he shot them all “execution-style” in the back of the head and left the scene. The bullet only fractured the teen girl’s skull, so she played dead until he left, then called 911.

The two adults and three of the children were found dead upon arrival, according to deputies. One child was transported via LifeFlight to the hospital, but also died. The teen survivor was able to tell deputies who the shooter was and that she believed he was headed to another residence at Anvil and Ella to possibly attack more family members. She was then transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital via Lifeflight and remains in critical condition.

But, thanks to her warning, law enforcement officials intercepted Haskell and he took off. Haskell led deputies on a 30-minute chase for more than three miles until he drove into a cul-de-sac at Countrymeadow and Country Canyon Drive and was blocked in by deputies shortly before 7 p.m.

Haskell, holding a gun to his head, sat in his vehicle for hours surrounded by deputies with guns drawn and at least a dozen patrol cars.

[rQUOTEr]According to documents read in probable cause court, Haskell arrived Wednesday afternoon dressed as a Fex-Ex guy at the victims' home in the 700 block of Leaflet Lane near Interstate 45 and Cypresswood.

A teen identified as Cassidy, 15, regonized Haskell as her ex-uncle. She told him her parents were not home and he left. Court documents say Haskell then came back a second time and kicked in the front door. He told Cassidy not to close the door and then tied her up. Haskell then waiting for the rest of the family to come home.

Court documents say when the rest of the family arrived, Haskell tied all of them up face down and asked them where he was was. When they said they didn't know, he shot all of them execution-style in the back of the head.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, two adults, identified as Stephen Stay, 39 and Katie Stay, 33, died at the scene. Three children also died at the scene. Cassidy and a 4-year-old boy were both transported via Life Flight to the hospital. The boy died at the hospital.

Court documents say 15-year-old Cassidy is the lone survivor of the shooting. She told deputies she played dead until Haskell left. That's when she dialed 911 to tip off police that the man intended to kill her grandparents. She remains in critical condition, they said.

what a remarkable story of courage(15 yr old that survived) saving the lives of other family members...

What a devastating story...losing both parents and siblings to a monster...

Should have just let him shoot himself in the head...that POS doesnt deserve the courts to rule him mentally insane...

    awful story.

Poor girl, what a tragedy to live through, but she more than likely saved other family members.
