riiiigghhtt...obviously you have to have a good hitters eye and bat speed to hit homers. but the steroids will help a bit, even if for just health reasons as he said. if it helped him stay on the field and play, then it helped with homeruns. does he reach the HR mark if he is out for weeks at a time with injuries?
He hit almost 50 hr his rookie season so he always had power, but I don't know if you can 70 w/o them.
It really worries me to see this push by some people to suggest that PED's either don't hurt your health, or they don't make that much of a difference to an athlete.
"Steroids don't help hit homeruns" What a lie. Even if we accept the premise that being stronger due to better workout results from steroids does not correlate to homeruns, the health reason they use definitely correlates to homeruns. Over the course of a season, players fatigue. Their bodies wear down. Even if they aren't getting injured, their bats are slowing down in the dog days, their bodies ache for games at a time, etc. Being able to keep their bodies strong and "fresh" is a massive advantage.
How in the hell does Pujols continue to put up these monster seasons and be steroid free? Are we watching the greatest baseball player to ever play the game?
Best part of the story so far.......Canseco challenges McGwire to a live polygraph showdown!!!! I would SO watch that. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4819250
The timing of this makes me wonder that if Mcgwire had gotten elected into the HOF last week, would he have still come out with this confession?
