http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mark-jackson-called-espn-disrespectful-212716015.html Jackson has the balls to call them out on their bullshit.
Good. Call BSPN out for their ****. And that'd be a great end-of-meeting tool to get the players going..
espn is doing this with with the westbrook/ harden mvp race.. just like they did with curry/harden in 2015, the only problem is that harden has the wins over his rival this time
I know ESPN is biased but coming from Mark Jackson you have to wonder how much is jealousy because they got good once they fired his ass.
Actually, they were good when he was there, they just got better after he left. ....... ....... .......
And yet it behooves Disney why the once Empire Sports Network is bleeding subscribers month after month? Sure, it's a business and precious advertisers pay for it all. But to the detriment of sports, ESPN is promoting short-term gains much like a Don King promotion and look what that did to boxing. When ESPN only promotes the same two title cards, Warriors and Cavs, the undercard matchups suffer, which undermines the rest of the league - something ESPN has agreed to pay billions for the rights to broadcast. It's the whole WWE cannibalizing itself all over again.
Cool, but this dude also sucks the Warriors D when he broadcasts their games, which seems to happen too often.
I'll trust ESPN's marketing department to know better than Jackson the best way to sell their product. They're probably not too happy to have a coworker trying to throw a wrench in their marketing strategy.
I've always loved Mark Jackson. Let's not forget how bad the Warriors were before he got there A team like Sacramento should be pushing for Jackson to coach for them
He's not complaining about whether the marketing strategy works. He's complaining about fairness/objectivity. But yeah, I'm sure they are not happy about what he said. You are not supposed to criticize your own company in public. That's why coaches and players get fined when they criticize the league but it's fair game for the media.
The purpose of the marketing is to maximize eyeballs, not to be fair to all the players with an objective analysis of their abilities. That's Jackson's job. And really, criticizing the ads is just a round-about way of doing that job, saying 'hey, these Grizzlies are a good team in their own right.' But he didn't have to reproach his own employer to make that point.
I see your point and am not disagreeing with it. Professional sports are treading on the line between entertainment and physical competition. If it was an ad of an upcoming TV drama, nobody would complain that the ad only showed the main characters and that it was disrespecting the other characters. Sports teams are supposed to be competing on a leveled field. Introducing a game, in that sense should make it look like both teams have the same share of attention. That said, Jackson should know better about his responsibilities as ESPN's employee. He could have said it more tactfully, "You know, while all the hype is on the Warriors, people should pay attention to the Grizzlies because I think they have a good chance of beating Golden State." something like that.
