If he leaves via free agency, do the Texans get that team's first round pick? Or, does that only apply for restricted free agents?
Yup they'd probably recieve the highest compensation pick in the 2013 nfl draft which would be in the third round. Texans need to be willing to do anything they can in order to sign him. He is probably the most talented player on our team. Brooks Reed and Connor Barwin are both great but Mario Williams is a game changer!
As far as I know ,this is not the case. Free agents walk unabated. Arian Foster, on the other hand, might net us some compensation if he leaves.
we should just sit Arian Foster and Mario Williams in the same room and make them come up with a solution.... we have a super bowl contending team, that should really matter to them... I dont expect a Wade/Bron/Bosh pay cut compromise, but both parties should work out something
I'm talking about those Compensation picks that you might see at the end of, lets say, round 4 or something.
Under the old rules, if you lose 4 guys to FA and signed 3 via FA you'd receive one compensatory pick. But, it's hardly worth even mentioning. A guy like Mario might net us a pick at the end of the 3rd round, provided we sign less than we lose.
