Role players are so f**king expensive these days.

I think Morey might be on to something.

It's a star driven league and there will always be players for cheap.

Every team needs 2-3 stars at least, a sixth man and a few solid role players (sometimes they cost 4 years, 52 million... Example: EG).

Morey is onto something but he realized that the Ryno deal was a mistake (at least in hindsight). Lesson learned.

    I like this deal.

$13 million a year is good price. Reasonable enough to where Smart can be easily traded in the future as part of a bigger package for a superstar. Always a good idea to hold on to salary to use in trades.

Define "these days". Since the major cap bump? He's making what, 13ish% of the cap? Back in the day that would be $7/mil-ish? Sounds fair. Smart can flat out play some impact D.

Celtics vs Raptors looks to be the ECF matchup if Kawhi actually plays.

    Celtics

    PG: Irving, Rozier
    SG: Hayward, Smart
    SF: Tatum, Brown
    PF: Morris, Theis, Ojeleye
    C: Horford, Baynes

    Raptors

    PG: Lowry, VanFleet, Wright
    SG: Green, Powell
    SF: Kawhi, OG, Miles
    PF: Ibaka, Siakam
    C: Jonas Valanciunas

    ... I like it

Really believe Celtics have shot to dethrone Warriors or knock off Rockets.

People don't understand this and they just look at numbers. I definitely think it's a good deal for a player like Smart. I actually would not want him on our team because he is not a reliable shooter.

Brown may start, really don't know what Stevens will do. Have to think he's willing to test Brown off bench. All speculation.

OG I can see starting, again, IDK what the new coach wants.

we've already seen what lineup boston used when they had everyone healthy. brown is their 3 and D player. that doesn't get used as it is needed off the bench.

    So

    Irving, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Horford?

Rozier, Smart, Morris, Theis, C off bench then. Lot's of ways to go, Morris looked good at PF last year. Either way, Celtics look strong this year.

I know Hayward is basically supposed to start, but...

Irving / Brown / Tatum / Morris / Horford with Rozier, Smart and Hayward coming off bench is actually a really solid 8-man rotation.

Hayward provides the "6th man" offense while Smart provides the "6th man" defense; Rozier is just a great all-around PG.

However they setup the rotations, they'll probably want to stagger Irving and Hayward somewhat. Both can run the offense. They can always make sure they have a good playmaker on the court.
