I would love for Marcus to step up this season. I think his biggest areas to work on are defense, hitting the open shot, and punishing smaller SFs on the block. I could see him being Landry 2.0. I think defense and adjusting to the speed of the NBA are his biggest hurdles.
yeah, he needs to improve his speed. I don't get why people are saying marcus is a bust. if we chose markieff, the same thing would have happened. if marcus was in phoenix, he would have been playing well.
Small sample size. Having to learn positioning of the SF defensively. His 3pt shot was not out to NBA range. He was not in sync with the team. He was not ready for the speed change from the NCAA 4 to the NBA 3. He has not played 500 minutes yet.
It's too early to write him off, but if he doesn't dominate summer league ball then that's the end of the experiment. He'll be given every opportunity to do so, logging heavy minutes and being the focal point of the offense I bet. The expectation is that he should do good (think Donte Green when we first acquired him), but then the question is how much of it will translate to the NBA. If you are done with him already, you should probably root for him to suck in SL so that our decision is that much easier. The worst scenario would be another Jordan Hill Experience where he dominates lesser competition, flashes brilliance here and there, and then evens out to a pretty mediocre performance for the entirety of the four years we have him.
I'd like to see the Rockets play Morris on the blocks more, using his size and position played in college to our advantage, instead of molding him into a damn spot up shooter.
He was playing the PF position that game. Had he been on the wings and not the one setting screens he wouldn't have be as active in the offense that game. When you put Morris on the wing you elimate his ability to create off of a PG or another wing player. He has to create for himself or take a contested jumper. I assume in training camp they are going to try and put in some new sets that allow someone like D-Mo to come out to the 3 point line and has Morris duck in the post. The spacing is just aweful running plays for him with two other post players on the floor at the same time that cant stretch out to the 3 point line. Hope that helps explain why he was able to fill it up that game, and never got that active in the offense when he was at the 3.
Anyone here seen The Avengers movie? That film had 30 more minutes then Marcus Morris total NBA playing time last season. I'll call him a bust if they tried to incorporate him into the system and he failed but the truth is they didn't play him and the late season pick ups like Boykins and Fortson almost had the same amount of total minutes as he did. Changes need to be made to our roster because this isn't working from a developmental stand point.
The whole idea about being a BUST is that a player drafted high(ish) isn't good enough to get on the floor. Darko Milicic, for example, rarely played.
But Darko wasnt labeled a bust after his 1st year was he, he was given a bunch of chances. If fairness to Darko he was put in a tough situation with a veteran team
