is the worst player on the best team more "valuable" than the best player on the second best team?

I have not seen anything or anywhere where the NBA gives classification on that, maybe it DOES count team performance after all...

If Yao had finished the season dominating like he was, he would be 1st team All-NBA, but he unfortunately suffered a 2nd major set back of his best season, because of that, and not team performance, people are picking him for 2nd or 3rd team.

This one by Mike Monroe of San Antonio Express-News has Yao Ming in Second All-NBA Team. Shaq first.

There are so few outstanding centers, picking three is simple: Shaquille O'Neal for first team, Yao Ming for second and Ben Wallace for third. Brad Miller is cause for brief pause, and eventually Chris Kaman will make the choice tougher.

Award: First place, Second place, Third place

Defensive Player: Bruce Bowen, Gerald Wallace, Ben Wallace,

Rookie: Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Andrew Bogut

Most Improved: Boris Diaw, David West, Andres Nocioni

Sixth Man: Antonio McDyess, Speedy Claxton, Mike Miller

Coach: Flip Saunders, Byron Scott, Mike Dunleavy

    All-NBA guards: Bryant/Nash, Billups/Iverson, Parker/Wade

    All-NBA forwards: Nowitzki/James, Brand/Marion, Anthony/Gasol

All-NBA center: Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming, Ben Wallace

ahhh bollocks to all of it.

Shaq barely played any games this year and made token appearances in most he did play. He was carried by D Wade.

Wallace is a great defensive player , but his offensive output amounts to next to nothing and if Ming didnt have to score he could block shots and change them just as well as Big Ben.

Yao will get his next year...I think the Rockets not being in the play-offs irrespective how well he played this year hurt his chances with the voters.

Him & T-mac will light it up 06-07.

Yeah, Yao should definitely be First team.

All-NBA teams should be based upon player achievement not team records.

Ben Wallace is a joke to be selected to any all-NBA 1st or 2nd team.

This season his RPG is only 11.3(4th in NBA),BPG 2.21(10th in NBA).

But he leads NBA in one category: FT%: 41.6%(worst in NBA)
