NBA draft 2012: Winners and losers The Rockets entered the week with big dreams of landing Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard. Howard, however, doesn't want to play for Houston and probably wouldn’t re-sign with the team after this season even if was traded there. That didn't stop the Rockets from acquiring the 18th pick and swapping their No. 14 pick for No. 12. Given that they already owned No. 16, they had three picks total in the first round. Still, that wasn't enough to land Howard or convince the Sacramento Kings to trade them No. 5 so they could take Connecticut center Andre Drummond. Instead, the Rockets were left to take three rookies in Jeremy Lamb, Royce White and Terrence Jones. Houston now has seven players on its roster from the past two drafts. All but Lamb are forwards. The two trades also cost the Rockets center Samuel Dalembert and forward Chase Budinger. http://http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--nba-draft-2012--winners-and-losers.html;_ylt=Akf.25Ou62E2M8FIG5zYmYa8vLYF
This guy just had to pick a team to label a 'loser' and we were the natural pick since our name was constantly in the news for the past week and never made the big trade. We made some small positive moves and hauled in some great talent... not sure how that equates to being a loser. We'll sort out the roster, forget Spears.
I wasn't impressed with the 16th and 18th pick either, but I would imagine a few guys from that list of forwards are being moved.
Good lord first it was Solomon flaming the team for not getting the first pick which we had a 0.5 % chance of doing. Now it's Marc Spears flaming the team for not getting Dwight Howard and a top 5 pick. But we really did lose.
when was the last time Morey picked the wrong guy during draft day? he made bad trades but not bad picks.
He's not the only one calling us a loser: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20.../index.html?eref=sihp&sct=hp_t11_a0&hpt=hp_t2 Three Losers • Houston -- This isn't a knock on Jeremy Lamb, Royce White or Terrence Jones; all three could turn out to be good players. But the Rockets had grandiose plans on draft night -- moving up to No. 2 or No. 5, specifically -- and couldn't make it happen. Perhaps it is all for the best. Houston's end game was constructing a deal to land Dwight Howard, who a source close to him says has no interest in re-signing with the Rockets if traded there. Now, Houston can hope one of its three picks develops into an All-Star level player
Wait, isn't Andre Drummond like 18? I don't understand his logic. Jeremy lamb has star potential. A Kevin Martin type but that plays defense and can take it to the hole over people. If he judges the rockets draft by purely the draft selections themselves then they are winners. Chase is a good player but you know his ceiling. Same with Sam. All three players we drafted have the skill and potential to be more than either of those players.
Well which is the failure? 1. Unable to execute on the plan to move up and get your guy. or 2. Putting together a plan that is too difficult to execute. Because both are failures. DD
We were a long shot of getting Howard even if we had moved up in the draft (#2 or #5). Right now I can see that we are real packed at the F position, surely some sort of a move must follow. From what I've seen from Lamb I think he would of flourished in Adelman's system. K.
The problem is that all these "schmexperts" are grading the Rockets' draft on what they COULD'VE done...what was RUMORED they were trying to do. They should simply just grade the Rox draft on the players they actually ended up with.
I don't really disagree. We certainly didn't win last night. Without other moves, we'll have a handful of draft picks from the last 2 years rotting on the bench, or D-League. Plenty of time before the season starts to get moves done.
DD - Just because the Rockets WANTED Dwight Howard doesn't mean Rob Hennigan WANTED to give him up. That in and of itself doesn't mean the Rockets FAILED.
Id be more interested if this article was from Brittany Spears.... /Sigh... labeling us losers because like most of us they were caught up in the rumor mill... Lookin soley at draft picks(if there were never any rumors of us getting dwight) we would be winners... I deaperately wanted dwight and did not want to draft three players... that being said i still view this draft as a major succes...
