Bond for Joseph Chunestudy, 50, 809 South Madison St., is expected to be set today in Craighead County Circuit Court. Police arrested him without incident Wednesday afternoon. “I’ve never been involved with a case like this before,” Jonesboro Police Sgt. Stephen McDaniel said. Chunestudy is married to his unnamed 22-year-old daughter, according to information released by investigators. Circuit Court Judge Victor Hill sealed all public documents, including the marriage license, to protect the identity of the woman. A date for the marriage has not been released. The marriage came after years of alleged sexual abuse that started when the girl was 11 years old, according to police reports. Chunestudy’s ex-wife, Theresa Chunestudy, reported the marriage and abuse to authorities last week. Police said they don’t think Chunestudy has been convicted of any other sex crimes, McDaniel said. Chunestudy was arrested for carrying a firearm on the Arkansas State University campus, McDaniel said. A date for that arrest wasn’t available. Investigators retrieved a computer and other items from Chunestudy’s Jonesboro home, Detective Ernest Ward said. No information has been found on the computer, and police are not sure if the computer ever contained any information pertinent to the case, Ward said. Found out a month ago Theresa Chunestudy learned of the alleged marriage and abuse about a month ago when the woman moved into her undisclosed home, which is out of state. Chunestudy and Theresa Chunestudy were married from 1981-2000. The couple separated briefly, and Chunestudy fathered the daughter involved in the case with another woman, according to police reports. The girl moved in with the Chunestudys when she was 3 years old, police said. After Chunestudy and Theresa Chunestudy divorced, the adolescent girl remained with her father. During their marriage Theresa Chunestudy said she wasn’t aware of any abuse and didn’t know about it until she was told by the alleged victim. Chunestudy has two other children that were not living with him when he was arrested. He moved to Jonesboro with his daughter after the divorce.
