Do not click on the spoiler on the previous page. I'm not entirely against it's reporting, and inclusion here, but I think it should be edited to just be a link or something.... just my two cents. RIP to all lost. I don't know what's wrong with the world sometimes...
I agree. Why route a flight going way further South than where they were through that part of the world. Just doesn't make any sense at all.
Russia has one that's in service, the Kuznetsov, which can carry about 45 fixed wing aircraft. They sold another in the same class, one rusting away, to China, and that's the "new" Chinese carrier. At the time China bought the thing, it was going to be turned into a casino, or something similar. That was the cover story. They spent years refurbishing and modernizing it. Russia is thinking about building a new carrier, but that's many years away. The United States? We have ten Nimitz class carriers that are vastly superior to anything afloat or being planned by anyone else, although the British, assuming the money doesn't run out, are building 2 excellent carriers that will be the best carriers outside of the US Navy. We also have 9 "amphibious assault ships" that are smaller carriers with Harrier jets. The Harriers (they are what Britain used to defeat Argentina in '82) will be replaced by what will be vastly superior F-35's, the short takeoff, vertical landing model being built for the Marines (that these small carriers belong to) and our allies. We are currently buiilding new carriers about the size of the Nimitz class that will have electromagnetic catapults and a slew of other improvements, and will carry F-35's. The first, the Gerald R. Ford, should join the fleet in 2016. As for the topic, the Russians supplied the missiles to the terrorists that were used to murder those innocent civilians. They are supporting them in order to destablize Ukraine. I would have called them "seperatists," but after this event, terrorists better fit the description, in my opinion. Russia will pay a heavy price for this financially. They are set to purchase 2 Mistral class "amphibious assault ships" from France, which are small carriers and state of the art. The first is undergoing sea trials by the French prior to handing it over to Russia. It's been finished. After this, I'd bet money that the French will cancel the entire order.

Not sure if it's been posted, but a MH17 passenger posted this on FB prior to getting on-board. "If it disappears, this is what it looks like." Sad.
You think this congress is getting involved in this? HA. Americans won't support it unless it was carrying mostly Americans. That's just the way our citizens have been thinking. We've become isolationist in terms of helping others abroad.
There is not a single thing we could do without escalating tensions in the region. Also why is this thread in the hangout and not in the D&D?
There's nothing to debate as of right now. Pure speculation as to what brought it down so it's just sad news.
Thanks for that info. My dad is supposed to be flying Delta from Dubai to Atlanta and FlightAware has him going right across Ukraine... http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL7
