Magics were overachieved last year. To me, they will not be on the top next year. Actually, they lose more, and get less. VC is just a soft man without much heart. Only logic to retain Gortat is to trade him later on for whatever they want.
i wonder if the magic plan on starting gortat? rashard lewis and dwight howard could play their natural positions, and have a few bigs on the floor at the same time. then bass coould come off the bench. Jameer Nelson Vince Carter Rashard Lewis Dwight Howard Marcin Gortat
Can't do a sign-and-trade on a matched contract. Also, they can't trade him until after 12/15 (or thereabouts) and they can't trade him to Dallas for a year (similar to the Landry-to-Bobcats talk last year). He would be a BYC player for any trades though - that could help make it easier for another team to trade for him and save Orlando some money in terms of the luxury tax they'll have to pay.
Wow. We dodged a huge bullet by Gortat rejecting our offer. That would have ruined us in the free agency race.
I'm tired of hearing about Gortat. He played well in the playoffs as a back-up for the Magic, but he's going to be way overpaid next year. He was a nobdoy 4-5 months ago, but once the Magic received all of the coverage throughout their strong playoff performance, Gortat suddenly became a high-dollar big man.
Gortat can't be traded until December. Also, I'm not sure how much this will put Orlando over the LT, but if I'm not mistaken, they will only pay tax on the money that they are over the cap. Cap = $57.7M Salaries = $60M Tax = $2.3M Gortat's trade value will be something like 50% of his new salary, assuming the Magic are still over the LT.
Are there any restrictions on when they can trade Gortat? Im sure they realize a lot of teams had interest in him and rather then let him go for nothing, they match and can trade him. Take the Rox for instance. They wanted him and still need a center badly. Maybe Orl puts a package of Gortat and Pietrus for Battier and fillers. Hou would have to at least consider it. Orlando gets a great veteran in Battier who happens to be a three point shooter and great perimeter defender which is exactly what the Magic want. Not sure the Rox do it cuz they didnt feel Gortat was worth what he will get paid. But he becomes their starting C next year, a great back up to Yao if he makes it back, and Pietrus has some of the skills Battier had.
Daryl does it again! By meeting with Gortat, he pretty much pumped up his value to the point that Dallas almost overpaid him. Now Magic overpaid him.
I doubt the Rockets make a move to try and pry Gortat away from Orlando. When Morey tried to lure him to Houston he put a value on Gortat and when Gortat wanted more than what the Rockets were offering Morey walked away. I doubt they've changed their minds much in the last two weeks.
...with? Odom is fighting for 10mm and he's been offered 8. Unless OKC suddenly decides to open the bank LO is no to anywhere even Cubes and yes to Purple'n'Gold.
LOLers. It looks like the Magic just schooled Cuban. They signed Bass while the Mavs were busy trying to land Gortat. And they end up matching the offer anyway. No Gortat and no Bass for Dallas. Cuban = Owned
