The best we can offer if we don't use the tax payer MLE is to use the Non-Bird-Exception, which will be about 2.9M. Luc get 4.3M from Clippers, so it's not surprising that he walked away. It doesn't matter how big the contract Paul got, if Morey decides to reserve the MLE for other plyaers(probably Melo?), we can't offer more than 2.9M.

but the difference in 1.4 million is nothing when you are talking about playing for a top 3 team or a lottery team. He had to know we were tied on what we could offer and need to improve. He was looking at an important role and he bailed.
