What percentage do you consider a "good" mid-range percentage? Who are these winning teams that you think are good at midrange?

Here's this season's mid-range percentages for the better teams :

GS 43.9% from midrange (equates to 29.2% from behind the arc).

SA 43.1% from midrange (equates to 28.8% from behind the arc).

CLE 40.3% from midrange (equates to 26.9% from behind the arc).

OKC 44.3% from midrange (equates to 29.5% from behind the arc).

The Rocket's 3 point shooting (34.7%) is much more efficient than any of those team's midrange shooting.

Those are really good teams but they aren't good because of mid-range shooting.

Midrange is a low percentage shot and that's why you see most every team minimize their midrange shots over the last few seasons.

The Spurs are #2 in the league in midrange scorign and yet only 22% of their points come from midrange. For the other elite teams, it's much less. 12.4% of GS points come from midrange, 14.3 % of Cleveland's points are midrange and 16.4% of OKCs points are midrange.

The extra point awarded from behind the arc is such a huge advantage that even the worst 3pt shooting team (LAL) is still shoot 3s more efficiently than any of these elite teams score from midrange.

Didn't read, usual "fight the actual results of successful teams through stat manipulation---not to understand reality, but to warp it and conform to your own preconceived biases"

The problem is not our players. It's our coach. Different line ups and rotation . Not playing dmo until it's too late while giving Brewer mints that should have been Beasley or smith is unacceptable.

BobbyTheGreat says the Rockets have great offense.:grin::grin:

This team is the worst offensive team. We have one offensive player and if he's not on, the team is a joke. Warriors know that.

    Run down the court.

Walking is the preferred mode of movement.

they dont have useless players take up 20-30mpg and have useful players lucky to get more than 5 minutes in a game, if they even get to play!

they dont have r****ded coaches who have no idea what they're doing

they have a gameplan that suits their personnel.

    they have a "system"

they dont have one of the best defensive rebounding centers rendered useless by not playing any team defense and rebounding

they dont treat their fans like ****

Not play Corey Brewer. The Mavs were smart to barely play him during their championship run.

I always thought about this btw. Seeing Brewer last season thinking to my mind why the hell they didn't play him. Well this season answered my question lol

You need to have a midrange game, can't just shoot threes. Pull out all the stats you want and use formulas about this % of 2 is like % for a 3 and it's all nonsense.

Sigh... this is a prime example of numbers without any context.

Mid range threats open up the half court offense. There are reasons why this team has the worst floor spacing in the league.

How do you account for predictability in your model?

The point is not that the 3-point shot is more rewarding, that should be obvious. The point is that if everyone knows that your team is told to avoid midrange shots like the plague, they can focus better on defending the three. Thereby, your 3-point percentage goes down. And since the 3-point shot is more rewarding, any change in 3-point percentage has more of an impact than a change in 2-point percentage.

So basically you have to mix it up, if nothing else, to ensure a high 3-point percentage.

Also, if our whole game plan is built on shooting threes (and it is), we should have brought on much, much better 3-point shooters.

Having Brewer continue to shoot 3s when he obviously is bricking just about everything doesn't make any sense under any statistical model.

good point. they dont wait to the very last game to secure a playoff spot, while having the only competition be a young inexperienced team
