Hollins might not be wanting for his team to be broken up. I think Hollinger is the one pushing for the Gay trade

Hollinger is a amateur statisician compared to what the most advanced, MIT dudes do (like Morey). Perfect for the ESPN/ casual crowd, but managing an actual NBA team...?

I have to side with the coach here.

Yes, from 1986 to about 1996. I never was a Steve Francis fan, nor Mobley, nor Mcgrady or Yao. Once Hakeem left, and Rudy T, I was done with the rockets, basically.

Hollinger had to make his analysis accessible to a general audience, so it might be unfair to criticize it for being seemingly "dumbed down".

I don't know if Hollins is right or wrong about advanced stats, but he for sure is a damn good coach. At least top 10, arguably top 5 IMO. To say he turn around the Memphis team since they traded Pau Gasol is not not an understatement. You don't have to be a good talent evaluator or stats analyst to be a great coach.

if you listen to the interview, he doesn't criticize advanced stats. About the only thing that could be construed as criticism is when he says that the grizzlies had a guy once who reported to him about advanced stats. Lionel says that that guy had the nerve to tell lionel that he needed to play this certain lineup. Lionel tells the guy YOU come and coach that lineup and stuck with his original lineup.

Lionel also stats that contracts are about leverage and that nobody ever gets what they deserve. Either you have no leverage and you get less than you deserve or you have all the leverage and you get MORE than you deserve.

He also explains that he doesn't look at shooting % at all, and that while some guys might be good at making shots, they might be limited as to no being able to create their shot.
