My own personal favorite: the song where post-rock was born <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/6yEgcb167k4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Definitely. It's such a masterpiece. It's one of those albums that I think everyone will be able to relate to at some point, as sooner or later we all deal with the loss of a loved one. No happy ending, just completely raw.
I worked at a bank many years ago and we were robbed at gunpoint one day. After getting a gun pointed at my head and spending the rest of the day getting interviewed by the FBI, I played this song on my way home. Still creeps me out listening to it... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lAF8D0ugyVk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Unbridled, raw lyrics inflected with pain in the voice always soothes when you're in the depths of the muck and mire that is depression. Also pick almost any Bright Eyes song to condition this as well.
Yeah, I know people like to hate on the earlier Bright Eyes stuff, but I've loved it at various rough points in my life. Here's another that is chill inducing. Also about loss. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/2pr4GYQbHLI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Good call on the Antlers. Their follow-up album is overshadowed by Hospice, but was pretty great in its own right. Another one that always gets me. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Er4fw5HJUC0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Great thread -- I heard 'Jane Says' at club (I think) and was hooked -- I went and bought the album as soon as I could and instantly realized as the first song started I was in for a completely different experience... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/KV3ozZoQ13M" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

For Emma, was a game changer. That along with his second album are in the top ten albums I've heard in the past decade. I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard both those albums for the first time. The Antlers are an interesting band in that they really haven't changed their sound. They found a formula that works for the critics, fans and themselves and they stick to it. Albums one, two and three sound virtually identical, imo.
I was waiting for someone to post a Tool song. I think they make the most "chilling" music. Here's one that gives me chills in a positive way. It's so inspiring. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/EDlC7oG_2W4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
