they were never going to jail, let's just get that straight. It was going to get straightened out eventually, but I would say Trump definitely helped speed up the process. why would China want this headache by throwing them in jail, it's not like they are some political activists, just some dumb kids that plays basketball. Chinese legal system is very "fluid" especially with petty crimes. Even with locals they most likely let you go after a fine and some scolding, unless you are a habitual thief or something.
Trump is a blowhard, those kids weren't in jail, they were confined to their hotel and even before he opened his big mouth to Xi about these kids it was predicted all they were going to get was a fine after they apologized so it wasn't like these kids were in doing time in a Chinese prison like he tweeted. I'm glad Lavar didn't kiss up to him, more Americans need to call him out like the Curry's Lebron's and Lavar. Worst president in my lifetime and his popularity numbers prove it.

I said “if he opened his mouth more”,so it’s not what he said, it’s what he t have said. But even his “no big deal” comment could have been a big problem for them because it shows disrespect for Chinese law...Chinese law clearly thinks stealing is a big deal that deserves 3-10 years in prison.
