culture difference. traditionally, there is not much physical contact between Chinese, hand shaking is common. I still don't feel comfortable to hug someone unless we are really close, like with my wife. Nowadays young Chinese might be more used to that. But judging from the reaction to the hug, I guess it's not. Plus, there is the sterotype thing that Asian men are not attractive to white women. And audience was probably high during the ceremony.
Its been rumored for years that she has a crush on him and even asked him out on a date while Yao was in seattle in 2004 watching his then gf Ye li while she was playing in an exhibition game against the storm. It is said that Yao's gf was nearby at the time and he pointed to her then politely declined.
LOL. No one can put a joke up on Clutchfans because you're guaranteed to have some *** miss it completely.
That was far funnier than it should be. Pretty good summation of the ridiculous attention a freakin' hug has gotten.
The video is plain stupid. It's a simple hug for Christ's sake. The video maker do not understand the cultural differences. I hugged a girl in front of my wife to say goodbye because she is moving to another city. My wife is totally cool with this and we are both from mainland China. The girl I hugged is raised in Canada and that's why she is following the Western culture. But in Chinese culture, you don't hug a girl unless she is either your girlfriend or your relatives.
LJ is attractive. But Yao will say just as what Chandler said to Joey in Friends something like " you will have courage to speak to someone who is you are looking for. sorry. I'm married. " BTW, the Chinese guy picture above is really annoying. Not good looking people around the world not just in China.
