Looks great in hindsight that we didn't get him again. Couldn't keep himself healthy at all.. at least everyone that says we should have grabbed Pettite to get Clemens (calling it a 2-for-1 kinda deal) can quit that argument for all time http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2007/news/story?id=3054742
I was always of this mindset. We got the last of his good stuff. But someone will still pay him $$$ next year.
If they do pay him, I don't think it would be for much. He didn't have a good year at all, and was hurt for half the time. People will think he's to old now to get the job done.
Matt Jackson made an interesting comment yesterday about Roger Clemens. he said, i paraphrase, "why is it that Roger Clemens only seems to be hurt when he's getting shelled on the mound?" basically calling out Clemens for using the injury excuse for not being able to pitch a good game.
He needs to retire, and Cashman would be smart to clean house. Bring in a flood of draft picks or farm players, and build up. They could be good again in short order. Evan
Stick a fork in him...he's done. If he comes back again, then I feel he is just hanging on to a pipe dream. There are no short-cuts to the pennant, Roger. Maybe he should have signed with Boston?
dude is a longhorn, former astro, lives in houston... ...i despise the guy. his arrogance and ability to get others to pay absurd amounts of money for his services is vomity. i'm usually a homer but roger, good riddance, i hope we don't hear from your diva/prima dona/broken-down ass again.
Something to discuss.. and I'm not one to make excuses for the guy really.. but still, if a guy tries to pitch through pain (and by all accounts, he's a relatively tough guy)...he's likely to start messing up. Slight mechanical mistakes can lead to fat pitches. I think it's easy to at least make a guess as to why he gets shelled before coming out with an injury
