STAGES HOSTS ALL-STAR READING OF NEW MUSICAL BY FORMER HOUSTON ASTRO LARRY DIERKER
Old Stories draws on Dierker’s 40+ years of Major League Baseball
    experience

HOUSTON, TX – Stages Repertory Theatre gets into the swing of things as Astros spring training begins by hosting a reading of Astro legend Larry Dierker’s brand new musical, Old Stories. Dierker is a former pitcher, broadcaster and manager for the Houston Astros, a two-time All-Star, and the author of My Team and This Ain't Brain Surgery. The musical draws on Larry's 40+ years of experience in Major League Baseball and follows the fictional 1970 Washington Capitols and their star right fielder Arthur "King" Cole as the team makes a run for the National League pennant and Cole struggles with new love and a declining career. The readings will take place in Stages’ Arena Theater March 10 and 11 and are free and open to the public.

Accomplished Houston pianist and composer Paul English has written the music to accompany Larry's book and lyrics and will be accompanying the cast on piano for both readings. The readings will also feature Houston Symphony member Richard Nunemaker on clarinet and saxophone. The cast of Old Stories features an all-star lineup of Houston theatre greats, as well as plenty of rookie talent.

The readings are the culmination of a developmental workshop directed by Rob Kimbro, who returns to Houston after working for theaters in New York, New Jersey, and Wisconsin, including the McCarter Theatre Center and Madison Repertory Theatre.
