I was reading Larry Coon's excellent Salary Cap FAQ and realized it was updated last week with a new question concerning insurance on player contracts. Certainly would have been nice to have this info during the summer, when everyone was confused about T-Mac's contract situation.

Anyway, the part about the insurance companies being able to submit a list of 14 untouchables each year got me to thinking about who might be on the list. I would definitely think that when Yao gets re-signed, he's going to shoot to #1, which makes him an even bigger risk for Houston, if that's even possible.

So, any guesses on the 14 players and body parts who made the list?

    1. Eddy Curry's Heart
    2. Tyson Chandler's Back
    3. Zydrunas Ilgauskas's Feet
    4. Greg Oden's Knees
    5. Gilbert Arenas and Ron Artest (tie) At this point, anything is possible?
    6. Carl Landry's Teeth?
    7. ???

If you look at the post it shows two criteria for determining whether the guy is excluded or not:

    1. Lengthy and expensive contract
    2. Medical risk

Based on those two factors, I would assume that the following might be excluded:

    1. Michael Redd
    2. Troy Murphy
    3. Yao Ming
    4. Kevin Martin
    5. Nene
    6. Jerome James (lol)
    7. Boozer the loozer (well not really as his contract is expiring, but he sucks anyway)

I don't think Yao will miss 41 games in a row.

Since Yao would be covered this season, does that mean the insurance company can't exclude him next season?

I would assume so, since next season is within Yao's current (covered contract; Yao just has an Early Termination Option, that's all.

This also leads to another question: If Yao's contract is EXTENDED (rather than expiring and Yao being signed to a NEW contract), is this a way to circumvent the insurance coverage rules and keep Yao insured for the next 5-6 years? If so, it would be interesting to see if the Rockets explore an extension with Yao come September (after any other free agent maneuvers have been made).

Marco Jaric's wife. Some things are just irreplaceable.

Man, if Marco's eyes were any closer together, he'd be a cyclops.

Isn't amazing how fringe players like Jaric, Stojakovic and even Sean Williams ended up with hot wives while superstars like Gilbert Arenas and Dirk Nowiztki can't find a decent woman? Not only did they get with cheaters/scammers, their women look like men. LOL maybe there is justice in the world

So you think money means everything for women when they choose a man while men only consider if a woman is hot?
