turned down 9M/yr for 5 years on a conference finalist to take

9M/yr for 2 years with a team option for year 3, on a doormat.

    knucklehead indeed

He wants to be an all star. Well, good luck to him. I think he'll have good stats, and that Charlotte team will be pretty interesting to watch.

Conference finalist that seemed to fall apart vs doormat (? Not sure that's apt for the team he's joining) that had a great locker room. We'll see in a few months how much of it was Lance if Indiana becomes simpatico and Charlotte false into disarray.

I thought he was a restricted free agent. Isnt Indiana just going to match?

Unrestricted. It's different for 2nd rounders after 4 years. Same story with Parsons, if Morey waited another year.

Sure. Trevor is old now.... but both Parsons and Lance are not locks to become stars.

Borderline allstars are not impossible to find. If Terrence Jones can't be one, we will find someone else.

I am guessing Morey wants a legit perennial allstar (one that has been to several ASG) now!

Salary cup will dramatically increase in two years because of the new tv deal, he'll get a much bigger payday after his contract ends.

Glad I don't have to hear anyone suggesting the Rockets sign Stephenson anymore. The all stats non all star.

Still star chasing? I seriously don't think Morey will keep his job past next season

This guy is a tool on the court and apparently off as well. Turns down 5 year $44million ($8.8million per year) and then accepts 3 years and $27million ($9million/year) from the Hornets AND the 3rd year isn't even guaranteed to him.

Would the Pacers have refused to shorten the deal?

Who knows, it would be interesting to listen into those conversations.

His deal kind of stinks financially. He takes a 2+1, team option. If he becomes an all star, he can't opt out when the new TV contract hits. If he gets injured or sucks, he'll get released in two years and lose a ton of money.

Would the Pacers have shortened the contract to 4 years? 3+1, player option? That deal would've been so much better.

My gut feeling this is Lance seeking stardom, not money. He wants to be an all star.

That's a ridiculously reasonable deal. Stephenson is better than Parsons at just about everything basketball-wise. A job well-done for Rick Cho especially since they won't have to overpay Hayward.

I think the reason why Stephenson took this deal was because he gets to be the #2 option on a competitive team, playing behind Big Al, which could help setting him up for a decent payday 3 years from now.
Or maybe the guy was just drunk. He did sign his contract at 3 in the morning.
