And the gem of the article: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...chested-Lakers-get-50-a-charge?urn=nba,245179
haha.. if the Rockets did this sort of thing.. the organization would be bankrupt and Jared Jeffries would be laughing at LeBron James.
why and how? They can do anything they want internally compensating their players for performance, right?
Talk about primadonnas, this is basketball and their players need an incentive to take charges??? WOW
i really can't believe how many people are b****ing about this. no, they don't NEED an incentive. You don't NEED to get a bonus when you do something well at work. Some people get it. Is that wrong? Stupid? WOW they're trying to incentivize doing something that results in something good for your team on the court. Drawing a foul on the other team--not something so out of the box. If you say it's encouraging flopping...that's on the refs. The NBA and the refs need to make the calls properly and figure out how to stop that issue. But to say someone's stupid for incentivizing something positive for their team is ridiculous
Circumventing the salary cap. I know people will say "It's only $50," but this is David Stern we're talking about.
good point. How do incentive bonuses work against the cap in the NBA, any idea? I hadn't thought about that
It's funny because of how giddy Sasha "The Vagina" Vujacic sounds about the payment idea. "WE GET PAID FOR BEING FLOPPERS, I LOVE THIS TEAM!"
well it's millionaires we're talking about here. Is that not enough nowadays to take a charge? Not to mention it's 50 bucks to just fall down. It's part of the game, they shouldnt need a monetary incentive to do it when they already make like a thousand dollars an hour. It's their money, they can do what they want with it, but as a fan it would suck to know your team needs that kind of incentive.
I'm fairly certain this is common practice amongst a lot of NBA teams. Hell, we had this incentive in AAU ball!
I'm sure it is, but doesnt make it any better. What's next, incentive to pass to an open man? Incentive to contest a layup? That's whats wrong with a lot of players today. They only compete up to a certain point.
In theory, you're correct... but that would mean the referees would first have had to blow a whistle when Kobe doesn't have the ball in his hands.
