Well they should. It's not like they're gonna challenge Lebron for ECF considering how injury prone their rookies are. Embiid doesn't look like he's gonna have a healthy season his entire career.
I was looking at what picks are owed to them just now. And they laughably have 9 2nd round picks coming to them in the next few years. What the hell would you do with that many players?
They can always package those for something better, that's why it's better for them to keep tanking. If they get another lottery pick maybe they can trade Embiid for a healthier big man, like say Porzingis.
he's young and has a lot of upside. actually plays defense. and is a better 3 point shooter than his #'s would indicate. i'm convinced he can be a 40% 3 pt shooter in the right offense. detroit's was pretty bad. this is a good deal for the lakers, hoping it implodes on them though. surprised nets didn't try to get him.
Because they need to start building a decent enviroment if they want to sign top tier free agents, nobody is going to play there if they suck.
bc nobody wanted to give him the $ he was looking for. so he took the most money he could get right now to maybe prove he might be worth it next year
They don't have their own pick next year. It makes no sense for Brooklyn or Lakers to tank when they don't benefit from tanking
He's young and still has upside that he's banking on being unleashed this next season with LA. 18 million dollars isn't something to scoff at even if it's just on a one year deal... he's basically making Ryno money at the age of 24 and is not too far away from what JJ Reddick signed for in Philly, who basically has the same type of contract.
Not sure why people are saying its a bad deal for the lakers. This actually really good deal for them he's better than parson , Crabbe, Turner, Hardaway and Porter and yet got less money on a one year deal only. i'm sure the lakers wanted the flexibility for next year with the ability to sign him after they sign paul goerge or some other big name.
