Seems there would be cheaper options floating out there for point guard. If the Lakers or whomever actually offer something good for him, then so be it. Whatever interest they're showing now might amount to pocket lint (such as NY offering Balkman, who looks so high he probably barely knows what team he's on anymore).
can you imagine the PR nightmare if the Knicks removed the pick protection for Flynn and ended up winning the lottery? Heads would roll.
By the way, if we don't want the extra pick THIS year, we can always negotiate the restriction to be taken off the pick and have it made YEAR specific too. DD
I wouldn't want to take on salary either, but if Flynn is available, then that means Dragic is available, that means Lowry to an extent is available. I like the opportunity for a Splash, but nothing's gonna happen until at LEAST 3/1/2012. Looking at LA, they have that Odom exception. wouldn't it be nice to just get further under the salary cap SOONER? BimaThug, maybe you can shed some light on that. It opens a roster spot as well. We could TECHNICALLY bring Greg Smith up from the D-League for that one. I think he's been seasoned enough, and we need some back-up 5 to get ready for the playoffs. If we can swing for a 1st Rounder or a 2nd, I'm down, obviously, but I'd even be cool with LA absorbing Flynn's contract. Let them decide what to do with him at the end of the season. Don't send him to NY, because of the 'snake bite' potential of that pick getting worse for us...unless we can swing Amare or Melo or something valuable. Do the needful Morey. Make us a contender again.
We could also: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7k369dz To Houston: Stoudemire Barnes Ebanks Morris To LA: Flynn To NY: Scola Thabeet Dragic TWill Discuss.
I don't think they'd completely remove it but I wonder if they would reduce it to top 2 protected so if they get the 3rd pick we can have it
If we are looking to dump Scola's contract to get further under the cap this summer, maybe we could trade Flynn and Scola for Derek Fisher and the Lakers' trade exception. Then we sit Fisher on the end of the bench, and tell him that if he does not waive off on his player option for next year, his NBA career is all but over.
I agree that 3 1st rounders may not be cap friendly but if they could get a late 1st round for him I'm sure they could throw it in as a sweetner to any trade. And if they can't trade it, they could probably sell it if there isn't anyone left worth the pick.
