Once it finally hit him that this isnt a cake walk like in the East where you could just a switch on, he started blaming his teammates and threw in the towel.
Windhorst: The Lakers didn't accomplish anything this year. Their young players didn't dramatically improve. Their trade values didn't improve. All the free agents they signed to one-year deals, none meshed with LeBron. The coaching situation is in flux. It's a lost season. ... This team is now farther away than when LeBron signed on July 1st. That is a failure across the organizational board. (Young guys) You could trade them but couldn't trade them for guys that make a difference. As I talked to other teams out there, I'm not saying they wouldn't trade for them but they wouldn't trade for them in value. Lakers need on May 14 to hit luck in the lottery. You get 3 or 4, then the scenario changes and they can re-enter the trade market because honestly, I don't think they're the number one choice for any of the top free agents & it'll have to be the trade market. All the other guys will not sign there? Even the 2nd layer, they're a 2nd choice at best. Like they're a 2nd choice for Jimmy Butler. 2nd choice for Kemba Walker.
Cowturd: Told last night from a great source the Lakers interviewed Monty Williams last night on the East Coast and he's their number one choice. They interviewed him & want him but don't know if they'll get him. Philadelphia wants him. If they lose to Brooklyn or in the next series to Toronto, then the Sixers will get rid of Brett Brown & hire Monty Williams. That will leave the Lakers with their 2nd choice, Ty Lue. Their 3rd is Juwan Howard. Gut feeling is Ty Lue is their next coach. They'll wait for the Monty Williams situation. I'm also told the Lakers already have someone to replace Magic Johnson. They are communicating with him & he's OKing all these moves. He's not currently in the Lakers building because he's currently running another team in the NBA that's in the playoffs. That could be a handful of people. It could be Michael Winger of the Clippers, Bob Myers with Golden State, the young smart guy in Toronto, a couple other guys out there. The Lakers want Monty Williams. Ty Lue is 2nd. Monty probably gets the Sixers job though. If given the option, I'm told he'd take the Sixers job. More players, likes the organization, front office & ownership. My gut is Ty will get the job. Lakers are concerned about the optics that now Ty Lue/LeBron, it's Klutch Sports, it's LeBron's team. They ideally don't want that to happen but may not have a choice. Gut feeling is Monty Williams is who they want, Ty Lue is who they will get.
Jeanie is still running the Lakers like a family business. They had an opportunity to pivot and looks like she is instead doubling down.
LeBron calling out ESPN saying the rumors about him being unhappy with Lakers FO changes are not true on his IG story.
Yep. The management is a mess. So the solution is give a high position to your buddy who doesn't know what she's doing.
Lakers Could Hire Kurt Rambis As Associate Head Coach Or Assistant GM Kurt Rambis is taking a more active role with the Los Angeles Lakers. Rambis will sit in on head coaching interviews in the coming days. Rambis' wife, Linda Rambis, works for the Lakers and is considered one of Jeanie Buss' closest advisors. Rambis could end up on the Lakers' bench as associate head coach, or become assistant general manager.
That's too bad. He would have been a great choice for them. According to Bill Plaschke of The Los Angeles Times, Jason Kidd "doesn’t seem to have a chance" at the Lakers head coaching job. Kidd interviewed with Lakers brass earlier this week, but Plaschke writes: "Apparently the Lakers were just doing it as a favor to his agent, Jeff Schwartz, who is also the agent for Lakers forward Brandon Ingram."
Too bad; I am so anti-Kidd that his being hired by Lakes might have been positive (for anti-Lakedom, that is).
