Go ahead & bring up your no coach has ever won a Super Bowl with two different teams argument. I don't care. If I had my choice:
Not included on my list until he becomes an active candidate, obviously. Zero interest. (And it's probably mutual) Me gusta. Do not want. GTFO.
Not an obvious choice at all, flamed out with the Dolphins and left them high and dry for Alabama. He ain't leaving Alabama.
I think the best candidate is Bill Cowher Other candidates are lovie smith or Jon Gruden but we all know none of them are going to get hired since Bob is cheap, lol
The only mistake Rick Smith made was the Schaub extension. And unless you're like me and never liked Schaub, you wouldn't think it was a bad signing. Nobody saw this train wreck coming. And Rick Smith has drafted really good in the early rounds. I remember people (myself included) thinking we were stupid for drafting JJ Watt in stead of a Corner Back. I wanted to draft Prince Amakimora (probably spelled wrong lol) Plus, I don't think we are that far off from where we thought we were. We just need a QB and a less predictable coach. I'd draft Johnny and get a new coach. Not sure who though, lots of options.
I don't really give Rick Smith a lot of credit for "drafting good in the early rounds" considering 1) That's when the players should be the easiest to get right 2) The picks were basically made by the coaches anyway 3) He's missed on quite a few picks in the early rounds as well.
Rick came in June 6, 2006 so I'll start with the 2007 draft and on. 2007 Draft Results 1. Amobi Okoye DT 3. Jacoby Jones WR 4. Fred Bennett CB 5. Brandon Harrison FS 5. Brandon Frye OT 6. Kasey Studdard OG 7.Zac Diles LB 2008 Draft Results 1. Duane Brown OT 3. Antwaun Molden CB 3. Steve Slaton RB 4. Xavier Adibi LB 5. Frank Okam DT 6. Dominique Barber SS 7. Chris Jones DT 6. Ryan Griffin TE Now to this juncture in his tenure here in Houston, there are only 3 players that you can say he absolutely hit on; JJ Watt, Duane Brown, and Brian Cushing. All first rounders. From there on most of the players are either out of the league, non impact, or yet to be determined. Honestly if you tell me that out of 7 drafts all you can find me is 3 sure shot players I'd say you'd need get slapped silly and shown the door.
My choices: 1. Jon Gruden. Pros: Media-friendly, fiery, QB focused. Cons: out of football, expensive. My first choice. Other candidates: Greg Roman, Lovie Smith, Dave Toub (stick a dagger in Marciano), David Shaw (gotta have a college coach candidate... the chances at getting Chris Peterson is slim and none... and slim rode off on a Bronco).
