At that point it didn't matter.

The owner (with Rick Smith in his ear) thinking Keenum was a possible solution at the QB spot was such a joke

I'd take Keenum over any QB the Texans have on the Roster.

Kubiak was dealing with a loaded deck. One loaded with star players who by nothing other than bad luck had horrific injuries that we never could seem to get over. How many times did you hear......"He is the best in the league when he is 100%" about Foster? That's the problem. We played him 70% of the time on a good year. Just after Cushing rehabs and signs a huge contract he gets hurt again......QB after QB go down. There is one thing that never changes.......we have gotten what we pay for our quarterbacks and have given the big money to other players that haven't made enough of a difference for us to dominate whatsoever. Kubiak wasn't a healer, just a man trying to lead a broken team. I for one am happy for both him and Wade, and hope Bob realizes he didn't fix the problem.

Lol, well that makes sense. You're pretty bad at assessing QBs.

That said, I'd take him over Yates.

Right, well at that point the season was lost.

The Texans actually had a policy of not extending players during the season. Then all of a sudden Schaub is extended.

Kubiak wasnt going to complain publicly, but it looked like a Rick-McNair call.

Then when Schaub blows up and the team cant win without a QB, they blame Kubiak.

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2012/09/anatomy-of-schaubs-contract-extension/

"Owner Bob McNair said at the start of training camp that of the players entering the last year of their contract, three potential free agents – Schaub, Barwin and offensive tackle Duane Brown — represented a core group that needed to be targeted first."

"Most of us in the media reported they wouldn’t try to sign Schaub until after the season. During a charity appearance for his GR8 Foundation, Schaub even admitted he thought it would be after the season.

“You didn’t hear any of us say that,” Smith said. “I didn’t say it because I was adamant that Matt was our quarterback, our leader, and we wanted to get him extended.”

And why was the team loaded with star players?

We know it isn't because Rick knows how to choose players. He never had or wanted final roster control.

The point of this isn't to bring Kubiak back.

If McNair is serious about building a good franchise he'll have to realize his past mistakes. No more divided front office. Have clear lines of authority and accountability for roles.

Get rid of Smith and BOB and start completely fresh with a new regime. Give them the appropriate power over the roster and hold them accountable.

No he wasn't. Schaub got injured after 2011 and was extended after the week 1 win against the Dolphins in 2012. But 2012 was a great year overall for Schaub. He threw for over 4,000 yards and made the Pro Bowl. If his decline started in 2012, it wasn't until the end of the year. To suggest that he was done at the time of his contract extension is inaccurate.

    What are you referring to?

Do people think that just because someone played QB for us that they were thought of as a solution? He was an undrafted free agent. He was on the practice squad. When he made the roster, he was as the 3rd string QB. He only played after Schaub got injured. Then he was waived, signed again when Fitz broke his leg, and then traded for a 7th round pick.

What part of that suggests that the Texans viewed Keenum as a solution? Fans were calling for him to play, just as they were calling for Mallett, but that has no reflection on how the organization felt about him.

Case was not supposed to be a solution. And neither were Fitz, Mallett, or Hoyer.

Maybe there was a desire to see Keenum play after the wheels had already fallen off and Schaub got injured just to see what he could do (sounds familiar), but that's not the same thing.

Yes Schaub didnt decline until the end of 2012 and he was extended early in the 2012 season.

Why did Rick and McNair change team policy and extend him during the season instead of waiting? A huge mistake could have been avoided if they stuck to the original (I assume Kubiak) plan to wait.

As far as Keenum, yes I agree they "wanted to see what he could do" which is always stupid logic because the coaches watch what these guys can do every day in practice.

Showing what happens when you have a competent owner that will hire and fire people without hesitation until he gets it corrected.

You mean QB. That franchise was a joke between Elway and Peyton.

They did win a playoff game with Tebow. So a franchise in their joke years went as far as the Texans in their prime.

They hired in a joke coach in Josh McDaniels, another Belichick, protege, who was a disaster.

They were smart enough to fire him after two years

Not that I'm endorsing the McD hire, but they did start a hot 6-0 under him, including a win against the Pats. BOB would salivate at either of those feats, let alone a 6-10 finish.

Texans won a playoff game with TJ Yates. Your move.
