Wasn't sure if I should post in NBA talk or here, so alas.

    http://www.nba.com/statistics/default_all_time_leaders/AllTimeLeadersPTSQuery.html?topic=4&stat=1

    NBA
    Rank Player PTS
    1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 38387
    2. Karl Malone* 36928
    3. Michael Jordan* 32292
    4. Wilt Chamberlain* 31419
    5. Shaquille O'Neal 28582
    6. Moses Malone* 27409
    7. Elvin Hayes* 27313
    8. Hakeem Olajuwon* 26946
    9. Kobe Bryant 26934
    10. Oscar Robertson* 26710
    11. Dominique Wilkins* 26668
    12. John Havlicek* 26395
    13. Alex English* 25613
    14. Reggie Miller 25279
    15. Jerry West* 25192

He's apparently jumped from 12 to 9 so far this season, and he's predicted to end the season around 6.

Now let us reflect on the Hakeem greatness.

    NBA Dish, in my opinion.

DREAM will be in the top 10 for the next 20 years.

Hakeem has what Kobe could never attain: grace and classiness.

Same for Kareem (notwithstanding the unfortunate stint he had as pitchman for Coors Light), who he'll never catch.

Anyone else notice that the top of the list is dominated by big men? I don't know if fans should be happy or sad that given the marketability of Jordan, Stern has basically destroyed that dominance and let wing players become king.

I don't know, maybe it's just the bitter Rockets fan in me talking, since I'd love to see what Yao could've done in his healthy years. That is, if the league didn't call fouls on him for standing there while opposing short players can bludgeon him with impunity.

What's amazing is that Dream was pretty much the focus of defenses while Kobe has had HOF Help for most of his run.

Not really, the big men just haven't been as good over the last decade. Though, the stock would drop on some wing players, if they had to play in a previous era.

Anyway, congratulations to Kobe, but he is still nowhere as good as Olajuwon on the court.

Hakeem was still the greater player. Only three (at most) of the guys ahead of him on the list were actually better players.

Not surprising really since he has been gone the last few years. If was still in the NBA and at least averaging around 20 he would probably be on the list.

sigh serves Hakeem right for teaching Kobe his moves!! :p

not surprised though Kobe is an amazing scorer and competitor and if his body holds up should easily be the 5th player to reach 30k for his career.

Just because he is passing up Hakeem in the scoring column is by no means a slight on Hakeem. Kobe is a scorer first and foremost, Hakeem was much more all around but as fearsome as he was as a scorer, Hakeem was more fearsome as a defender.

At least he'll get it tonight would have been a bit more of a "dammit" if he passed Hakeem when the Rockets play the lakers next wek

Hasn't he only won one championship without Shaq or Artest? And the year he won that championship without those two defensive stalwarts, they were GIFTED Gasol in a trade for NOTHING.

Marc Gasol really isn't nothing. I'd sure love to have him.

I've lightened up a lot when it comes to Kobe over the last five years or so. The guy is just truly an all time great, and it's been a treat to watch him for all of these years, even though he's caused me some heartbreak along the way.

No point in comparing Hakeem to Kobe. They're obviously completely different players. Both of them are top two or three at their position all time.
