Kobe will still average 20+ ppg on the season even if he has to take 30 shots a night.

Paging sletstack and his Kobe and the Lakers fantasy of beating out the Rockets for the 8th seed.

I guess that means he's just played a long time.

Oh and took a lot of shots. :p

Kobes game hasn't been predicated on beating guys off the dribble for a while now.

I'm not going to count Kobe out. He very well may no longer be able to regularly beat defenders off the dribble, but I'd bet anyone that he's still able to get separation. He's just too skilled and experienced not to. Kobe will be able to play in this league as long as his body let's him. Injuries and health will be what stops him. Not skill, ability, or athleticism.

You can't claim a player is done base of a few preseason games right after he was out for 2 years. It took Dwight at least 1 season to get back to his old self after the injury.

    2-year, $40 million dollar contract, y'all.

    mmm mmm

lovin it. And LOL at ESPN and the whole national media for flipping out on Howard for not wanting to play with a #40 player who acts like he's still #1 and eats up salary space like he's #1.

First of all, Jordan was elite from mid range and post since his first few years in the league. All you have to do is watch footage to see it was always there. He just took it to GOAT level when he got older. Second, Jordan was still only like 31/32 when he got back from baseball, and still very athletic up until 36. It wasn't until his return at 38-40 when he truly lost that elite athletic ability, but still more athletic than another 38-40 year old player we'll ever see. I mean the dude dropped 23, 6 and 5 at 38/39 years old. That doesn't show how he was actually dropping 26ppg before the knee injury and weight gain.

    These gents have it right.

Kobe has not been able to beat guys off the dribble with quickness in quite some time. His athleticism was very diminished by the age of 32. That’s why everyone went bonkers when he got a few dunks at age 34-35. He had not done that in a while and no one really expected it from him. Despite slowing down, no one can dispute how lethal and well-rounded he remained based on his skills.

It’s basic basketball. When a guy can stick jumpers from mid-range you have to get closer to him to contest the shot. Get closer to him and he can go by you easier. Now he is going by you so you step back and he buries the jumper.

Nearly anyone can get to the rim if they have the handles and the jumper and Kobe has both. I expect current Kobe to look like MJ did at 40. Actually, I think he will be less athletic than MJ was as a Wizard due to the injuries and the fact he wasn’t ever really close to MJ athletically to begin with but basically the same quickness and explosiveness. Similar stats too with lower FG% because even Kobe can't rely on jumpers that much and shoot about 45%.
