They can keep him.... but Anthony can also make it very difficult on the Knicks and their young players.

Really it comes down to Anthony and why he is willing to do, to get to Houston.

He has a PO next year and can just leave....why would you risk not getting anything in return when you know you already have no leverage? Especially since you know your team isnt going anywhere, it just makes no sense for them to keep him.
Either you get a 1st, harkless and whatever asset was agreed upon or you get nothing.
If they are waiting until the trade deadline you cant be sure the other teams will want to comply with the trade they agreed upon today, so you will probably get back something worse then what you would get now.

Knicks still having Melo on the roster once the season starts would turn their year into a complete and utter sh*t show

I guess they plan on continuing to have a circus environment around KP and have Ntilikina dealing with a bunch of nonsense?

Taking a crap deal to accommodate a diva makes them look like assholes? I mean, the Knicks front office ARE assholes, but this doesn't make them assholes. It's actually one of the few smart things they've done... pure leverage play.

    It's essentially a done deal!

New York likes what they're getting back!

    STFU.

For future reference: stop posting this guy's tweets. He doesn't know ****. And all the other fake insiders for that matter too.

    Morning! Nothing new?

Derrick Favors isn't considered a big name. And between money and boredom for an often injured player whose game is out of vogue..you don't have to write paragraphs to see what he will choose..$.

What do we tell Ryno now? We didn't really want to trade you? You make 20 mil per year get over it?

I think they have to move him before the season starts. Like Paul George, the sooner you get rid of a distraction and disgruntled player the sooner you can move on as a franchise.

Melo has an even smaller market than George so you take a chance of not getting anything in return.

If you wait until the season starts a couple things could happen. Disgruntled Melo doesn't play well and further lowers his value. Melo gets hurt and can't be traded. Ryno gets hurt and can't be traded . Cabs have injuries and can't be traded. A key player gets hurt and the team doesn't think the trade is worth it anymore. A guy from one of the other teams plays well and his value goes up. A player from one of the other teams gets hurt and can't be traded.

Knicks would be taking a risk trying to wait until the season started.

exactly. thats why I don't get why they are opposed to collecting guys that will become trade assets in 2 years when they are expiring.

I just don't think new york ever wants to embrace a true rebuild.

Maybe the fact that if he unequivocally states to the Knicks his desire to not play for them..... and a desire to play for another named team...... maybe... just maybe.... that plays a key role?!?!?

Even the Knicks arent that stupid...... i hope.

You view him as a diva. I view him as the face of their franchise and the guy Phil shat on every chance he got this season in an attempt to push him out. So yes, if that guy wants out, I think twice about what holding onto him looks like in the court of public opinion. Your mileage may vary.

The risk of not being able to move him and not getting any return.

Don't have to tell him anything... first... he wont be here when the season starts.... second... even if he is.. which he is not.... then he has been around a long time and knows that the NBA is a business first and a pro basketball league second.
