Kevin McHale: a candidate for Coach of the Year?

No way. Thunder coach probably.

 

There are a lot of worthy candidates. I think its too soon for McHale to get serious consideration, though. We are roughly where we were last year. According to basketball-reference.com's simple rating system based on schedule and point-differential, we rated as 2.37 last year (7th in conference) and we are 2.43 this year (8th in conference). Its all about the wins at the end of the season, though. We'll see where we land. The standings can change quite a bit a few months from now.

I'd say it's a 2 way race between Doug Collins and the Pacers coach.

 

Not if the Sixers keep third or the Pacers keep fourth in the East.

Still, the West is a lot more challenging than the East. If the Rockets are top 4 in the West, it might actually be a bigger accomplishment TBH... but the Rockets get ignored, unfortunately.

 

Wow, we must be living in a parallel universe right now with chatter for both McHale and Kubiak as coach of the year, and the Texans showing up with the no. 2 NFL defense this year after being no. 30 last year. Nobody sane would have predicted it.

Objectively or what will happen? What will happen if both teams continue course is that Collins will likely win. But from an objective standpoint, I think McHale's comparable.

Collins coached the exact same team last year, and they came back fully intact.
McHale has probably not seen the Rockets in practice until a couple of months ago, had his coaching staff assembled over the summer, and had to implement his own system to players playing a different system last year. The difficulty McHale had to overcome is much greater.

Oh, and the Sixers have had a really easy schedule so far, even compared to the Rockets.

 

No he needs go win the Southwest. If you don't at least win your division then you should not be considered.
