Only the delusional ones, were trading Anderson etc for Love. I have always felt that, he wouldn't be able to move the needle for our Rockets.

So he gave up a shot at a 5th year for what would essentially be worth 101 million at 35?

Good for him getting paid, but what terrible working conditions. Guess his priorities are set but kind of like going to work every day to a job that you hate. Money can do a lot to helping alleviate that.

next level 8-D Go from lebron here. he went to miami to let cleveland get the rebuild they needed going while he won titles. then he came back when they had stocked up the cupboard. kevin love will help prevent cleveland from signing anyone in the intermediate term to make them better, he probably won't provide a ton of on-court value at this point anyway so he won't hurt their draft picks, and he'll be an expiring contract for a trade when lebron comes back for his final chapter.

    Really, tho?

Cleveland isn't projected to make any noise in the East, nor are they under any pressure to make the playoffs. The way I look at it, its the perfect situation for someone like Love. Be THE guy, make your money, get your stats, and help usher in the new guy(s) in Sexton and other rookies.

LeBron has to turn coal into diamonds his first year. Harden and CP3 are expected to not only replicate their success from last season, but are also expected to get past the Warriors. Kawhi has to prove he's still the top 5 player he's known for being, all the while acclimating to a new team / country.

Point is, there are a lot worser situations than Love's current situation, where he's paid big bucks with no pressure.

If he can stay healthy he could outplay that contract, but he hasn't looked like the "Minnesota" KL in a long time. That contract seems a bit excessive and they'll probably regret giving him that.

I project him to be a top 5 fantasy player this upcoming season.

    Davis
    Harden
    Westbrook
    Giannis
    Love

    I'm fading Lebron.

    Didn't go on vacation. Sorry!

Never once mentioned your mother. Just the tap water that you drank and the fact that you were/are in the hospital because of it. Sucks.

And, good that you finally explained yourself about what that thread was about. Only took circa 12 pages for you to do it, after many repeated attempts and requests. Only problem: that post was deleted! Lol

My thing is who in the NBA would take on a $30 MM contact... Oops, nevermind some team will trade for him, regardless. He's still a good player.

Sure, this deal could age badly. Love could continue to get hurt or simply prove he’s not in the same stratosphere he once was — and the Cavaliers could be saddled with him the way, say, Houston is saddled with Ryan Anderson. But Love was an all-star in the past two seasons with James, and he should remain one for at least the next couple of years as the team is built around him.

    oh Ryan...

XO/Love can be not just one person. Kevin was going to be the face of THe Land if he wasn't moved. And, believe me, it was discussed a lot. Gilbert needs to fill some seats. Understand that part.

Cleveland trades Kevin Love and Kyle Korver

The Cavs signed Love to that fat four-year, $120 million extension because he is a very good basketball player. They also did it to increase his trade value. If the Cavs are too far behind the No. 8 spot around the trade deadline, it would be natural to pivot into tank mode and investigate Love's market. (Remember: Cleveland owes Atlanta a top-10 protected pick.) If no deal emerges, they could revisit things in the offseason.

They should not expect great return. Love just turned 30. That salary is huge, even if it drops by $2.5 million in 2022-23 (provided Earth has not melted by then). But there will always be some desperate team willing to give up an interesting rotation guy and middling first-round pick for an All-Star. How about Bismack Biyombo, Jeremy Lamb, and an unprotected Charlotte first-rounder? That doesn't sound great, but there won't be a Love motherlode.

Love would fit the Wizards, only there is no way they can pay $123 million combined to Love, Porter, Beal, and Wall next season. (Oof.) Other suitors will emerge.

A Korver trade should happen even if Cleveland exceeds expectations. Give him a shot at a ring! The $3.4 million Korver is guaranteed next season could be an obstacle, but that can be negotiated. How about Korver to Philly for Jerryd Bayless and a second-round pick? A reunion with Budenholzer in Milwaukee might require a buyout; the Bucks have little to deal.

Bonus Cavs thing that is kind of a prediction and kind of something they should explore if they punt the season: George Hill and JR Smith are guaranteed only $4.87 million combined in 2019-20, but will earn $33.7 million this season. Why not peddle those deals in exchange for dead contracts that run longer than those attached to Hill and Smith -- plus a first-round pick?

Plenty of teams need long-term salary relief. Rebuilding teams -- i.e., Cleveland -- need draft picks. The return in draft picks might not be as valuable as the forfeited cap space, but it's worth at least investigating.

I wonder if the exit of Lue speeds this up.
