Yeah, but he is no where close to the best anymore.

Or that Love is tremendously overrated.
Remember Chris Bosh? Dude put up beastly numbers in Toronto and didn't play the same on the Heat, leading people to hate him.

Put Love on any championship caliber team... he won't be as good as everyone thinks he is.

umm what? love is putting up better numbers than when bosh was on the raptors. and, raptors are in the eastern conference. in a few years, loves team will be able to make it to the playoffs in a much more competitive western conference.

it's fruitless to get into an argument with a guy that believes this way. let him believe that love is a stat-stuffing nobody. they've been saying that since he's been in the league and all he does is score more and rebound more each season.

    Well, we'll see.
Still don't think he's that good.
Maybe a 12/10 guy on a tier one team.

What happened to the best player at a position being a good two-way player? It seems like all of the best current PFs are average or slightly above average defenders.

    PG: CP3 (good defender)
SG: Kobe or DWade (good defenders)
    SF: LeBron (good defender)
    C: Howard (very good defender)

Power forward seems to be the only position where the best player (whoever it is) isn't really a good defender.

Kevin Garnett (despite being a dirty cheap b****) was a great defender.

Him and Duncan were both outstanding defenders (they're still pretty damn good), but it's been a few years since either of them were the best PF in the league.

He never put up the kind of numbers that Love has been putting up since last season.

really? you think a 25 / 15 guy would suddenly turn into a 12 / 10 guy if he went to a team like the heat? Thats funny.

Nevermind, this one is even funnier. How delusional....

I can understand his points maybe taking a hit on a better team....but his rebounds go drastically down? Yeah that makes a ton of sense. Because his teammates on a Tier 1 team would be so much better they'd never miss a shot for him to collect any rebounds, he would only be collecting his own shot attempts, huh?

    Jesus.

I read the first page of this and felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.

Why is Bosh's name in this thread? Why is Dirk's name not in it a lot more?

Anybody saying it's not close is crazy. Even if you don't think Dirk is the best at the very very very least he is close to being as good as Kevin Love. Personally I'm going with the player that has taken his team to the finals twice, just one a ring last year as the best player on his team, and has a mvp trophy.

Isn't it interesting how -- depending on the athlete -- sometimes we'll either lambaste them for being a "pompous moron" or applaud them for their "self confidence" and swagger.

It's funny but we're very rarely consistent in our application of what constitutes a pompous, conceited athlete. If it's Chris Johnson, who declared himself "the best in the game" before the season started we simply applaud the display of confidence in himself. If it's someone else then maybe we tend to feel more put-off by the comment.

    Weird how that happens.
