I'm not saying he's not worth it, but damn KD is set for life, you'd think he care a little bit about the 12 man on the bench trying to provide for his family. I mean the dude is going to be a billionaire soon.

It has been advocated many times here. Hard cap + no max contract = no more superfriends team.

You think league minimum salary is "struggling" to provide for their families? Is your name Latrell by any chance?

Sure, but say you have kd making 75% of the teams cap, how could anybody play with this egomaniac, when he is clearly head and shoulders above his teammates, in every way.

I just think it would be terrible basketball from here on out. There needs to be more of a balance.

And what do you care about superfriends anyway, every player that's been any good for the rockets has been bought through free agency

he won't make 75% of the cap. The team still wants to win. He'll make like 45-50% of the cap.

from a salary standpoint, it's the teams who have players who are worth way more than what they're paid at the top end that are always there at the end. If this happened, you'd probably see 15 teams with a chance on any given year rather than 4 or 5.

As for the rockets, Dwight has been the only free agent, the rest have been trades or draft

yeah but those teams would also be terrible teams compared to the teams that are championship caliber that we have now and the history of the nba.

In my opinion, I think that the nba should make a rule that a team that drafted a player should also be able to keep that player his entire career. If the nba added that, there would be no need for a salary cap and the player could get what he was worth based on a mathematical formula that determined his worth. Even with trading a player, the salary cap wouldn't be necessary.

free agency, in my opinion, has killed the nba.

the players will never give up free agency, and yeah the teams wouldn't be as good at the top, also not as bad at the bottom and would remove the 30% of games that are really no contests.

The "history of the nba" includes no max contracts. Jordan, etc all played in an era with no salary cap maxes. Max contracts are a relatively new phenomenon starting after Kevin Garnett's obscene salary.

The NBA needs capped contracts as a crutch. If the owners could pay more they'd screw their teams up even more, like Milwaukee with Glenn Robinson.

There are ways to make it work - as Cuban mentioned, it would involve changing the guarantees. For example, maybe after 3 years, you can cut a player and only pay half his remaining salary and have that not count against your cap. That lets the player make a lot of money while also protecting owners from total busts. And players would get back into free agency earlier in that scenario, allowing them to either get paid for not playing or get paid by two teams.
