Astros trade Keppinger to Giants/call up Altuve

“@alysonfooter: The Astros traded Jeff Keppinger to the Giants for RHPs Henry Sosa and Jason Stoffel. Jose Altuve called up. And away we go...”

    Wow... quite aggressive.

Looking forward to a nucleus of Castro-Altuve-Wallace for the future.

Looks like they got back a starter who has been having a hard time with his control at the AAA level... the other pitcher is a relief pitcher who looks like he has closed games at the AA level..... if they really want top level prospects they are going to have to move Pence.... not even sure if Wandy or Bourn will fetch top level prospects. Get the Pirates on the phone.... they seem like they wanna make a big move in a bad way.

We got Jason Stoffel who is closer with some good stuff, lots of swings and misses. Henry Sosa is organzational filler. If Stoffel turns into a closer then it was a good trade, if not then we just gave Kepp away.

Altuve will have company soon, Martinez and Dallas will probably skip AAA too, IMHO.

Stoffel is the real prospect in this trade. The AAA guy looks like a throw-in.

Hopefully they didn't send any money the Giants way and reinvest the $1 million Keppinger was owned for the rest of the year and sign some draft picks and interntional prospects. Clint Barmes should be next to go.

If only they could just "give away" Carlos Lee, so they could get Martinez up here.

I don't care if they have to pay all of Lee's salary... they're going to have to do that anyways. Make him accept a trade to an AL team, get back ANYTHING for him, and get Martinez up here.

    I'd take that trade.

How about we cut him? Any prospects we get back will probably be worthless.

We would look pretty crappy as an organization... and players (including our own) would remember that.

Even if we found a trading partner, Lee has to accept it. In the past, he doesn't want to accept any trades because he likes to be fat and happy near his ranch. The pressure of a pennant race would be too much for him right now.

“@keithlaw: Sosa/Stoffel. Not a bad return at all. RT @FearThePotato: @keithlaw Any information on the prospects the Astros got for Keppinger?”

It sucks so hard that Wade is in charge of selling these guys off. I like the fact we are getting pitching.

i'm reading that Kepp will be a type A free agent. is this haul a better option than potentially getting draft picks for him?
