Yep, Vernon will forever be a Rockets favorite. He was our Patrick Beverley, but 10x crazier than Pat. But Max also hit some HUGE shots for us. I remember a CRAZY buzzard beater he hit flying outta bounds one year. Love Max!
what's wrong with you. Maxwell didn't cause the Rockets to move. There are way worse people in the world (manchester) and you're still mad cause he was mad that he didn't get playing time vs the utah jazz?
Loved Mad Max until he sulked and quit on his team. Harden fans woulda loved him. Maxwell though was a far better defender than Harden. Not even close. Max would shoot us straight out of the game sometimes too. Poor 3 shooter who was constantly gunning. Loved him till he quit on the team.
In case you and all the others forgot: That POS b*stard QUIT on his team over some bullshit over playing time. SO now because he's come crawling back I'm supposed to conveniently overlook that little fact because of a terrorist attack in Manchester? Yeah, right. Last I looked: Hakeem didn't quit on the Rockets during the playoffs; Clyde didn't quit on the Rockets during the playoffs; Kenny didn't quit on the Rockets during the playoffs; Cassell didn't quit on the Rockets during the playoffs; And Rudy T sure as hell didn't quit on the Rockets during the playoffs. But Maxwell did quit on his teammates and the city of Houston during the 95 playoffs when the Rockets were the 6th seed in the West and everyone had written them off. Now I ask you: would you be so forgiving of this b*stard if his actions had torpedoed that Rockets championship run? Would you and all the other Maxwell "apologists" still welcome and cheer this sorry ******* if his actions had led to that 2nd NBA title never happening? But it did happen because those players who didn't QUIT showed everyone just what the "Heart Of A Champion" was all about and that's something this POS knows absolutely NOTHING about. **** him. Oh and since you're in such a magnanimous and forgiving mood, perhaps you should cut TMac a little slack. After all: unlike Maxwell, he never quit on his team.
Dude admitted he made a mistake to our founder Clutch and on a documentary. Did tmac admit anything about how he left or played the organization and fans about his health?
You know maxwell admitted he made a mistake right ? To the founder of this site and to the fans I bumped the classic thread, go read it before you start yapping about Maxwell
But his 2nd title run was a bit of a fart. For the longest time, I despised Vernon for choking on the team by faking an injury and basically quitting on his teammates. Nobody was going to convince me otherwise. Vernon Maxwell? Who? Hated the guy forever for what he did to the Rockets. To me he was everything a Rocket wasn't. But... eh... when he came back and admitted he screwed up and made mistakes, I guess it was cool with me. Before that the dude wouldn't even show up in Houston, but now it's like he's calmed down, is more level-headed regrets his stupidity, and wants to make amends by just repping Houston. So, to me, he's a Rocket again.
Unlike many of our so called 'stars' of recent memory, he showed up to must win games. Was on drugs? Yes. Abused women? Yes. Was known to fire a revolver out the roof of his purple Porsche 911 while driving? Yes. But he hit THE shot to beat the Knicks. He sealed the game and series. Not Dream, not Kenny, not Herrera. Mad Max made sure it happened. Up until that point the game was up for grabs.
Look, we all make mistakes and act like a fool sometimes. Does that mean that we didn't contribute in some way to something good and worthwhile, and should that contribution be diminished because we acted foolish? No! We are who we are at this moment in time, and we can choose to dwell on the issues of the past or celebrate the victories.
