Theoretically of course. Yes Yao was an exception, but I think Durant is an exception too. But IMO this rarely ever works in the case of people who have a body type that resists muscle gain. I would be amazed if a player like Durant who is so particular about offseason training does not lift weights regularly and eat well. We've barely seen him fill out, and he's been in the league since he was what, 19?

Again, I agree theoretically it works for 90% of players. OTOH, I think some people's bodies just don't deal well with extra bulk and that really shows up down the line and/or during training in the form of niggling injuries.

It's true that this has to be done "right" but I haven't seen it being a success with NBA trainers who seem to be highly qualified to do all this. I mean, did the Rockets trainer think he was putting the wrong weight on Yao? I think if a person responds to it well, go for it. But if you have to move mountains to add a bit of muscle, the gains are not worth the effort and the time could probably be used more wisely.

More than anything I just don't don't think that Durant has the body type to fill out. No doubt he already lifts in the weight room, but Durant to me has that wirey strength.

It's impossible to look big when you're 6'9-10 with a massive wingspan, if you wanna build your body to be like Dwight, then he'll lose that quickness on the perimeter, ability to penertrate

    Durant should hit the dead-weight.

I think he needs post moves more than he does the weight. LMA is a skinny power forward and the dude is a beast down low. You dont need to have a muscular frame to play down low you need to have moves. Hakeem is another player that comes to mind that wasn't overly built.

The knock on Durant ever since he came out of college is that he didn't have enough muscle on him. KD almost surely lifts weights regularly and has probably tried to add more bulk but didn't have much success because he doesn't have a frame or body type conducive to that. Bulking up may improve his low post game a little bit but is likely to hurt him in other aspects of his game, such as agility. Besides, you don't need to be a big brute in order to be good in the post. Skill and footwork has a lot to do with it. See Aldridge and to a lesser extent Duncan.

Perkins should have kept his mouth shut. Who the hell does he think he is? The guy is useless, wasteful deadweight, and if OKC gets a clue they'd ship his angry ass outta there.

    Thought the exact same thing.

Perkins is slower than a statue, one of the reasons OKC lost.

Pretty much. It's a reason why shooters tend to be thinner (not always the case) but really Perkins asking him to change his game.

Nothing is wrong with his game, he just has to be bigger in clutch playoff moments pretty much.

Lol dont need to bulk up. NBA has turned soft. If Durant bulks up, can lead to more injuries and less fouls called when he drives in the lane.

So KD gets tired because he doesn't have enough muscle and Lebron gets tired because he has too much. Sounds good.

Just like LMA did his first several seasons, KD has gained bulk every year he's been in the NBA. When I first saw him during the preseason last October, he looked like a different player. Last summer was probably his biggest weight gain ever.

Putting on muscle has to be a gradual process or it will disrupt KD's game (which would be catastrophic). IMO, part of the problem with him posting up smaller, physical players like Tony Allen is the way they attack his dribble because he's so high off the ground. Gaining 10-15 lbs in one summer won't fix that. LeBron can play low to the ground because he's shorter and stocky. KD will never be like that.

KD will be 26 when next season starts. He's listed at 240 lbs. Incremental growth of his mass is what will happen and should happen.

This year, he was good enough to have his best season ever, win the MVP award and is just hitting his stride of true greatness. KD will be fine. I don't think he needs to hit the weights this summer any harder than before. Smaller, nasty guys like Tony Allen and players with arms like Mr. Fantastic such as Kawhi Leonard will always be his nemesis.

I think most of the posters in this board agree, perkins is the actual weak chain of the okc. He already costs them harden, n this season he wasnt much of a factor (steven adams played better than him). He is the one that needs to better up himself. OKC is just one solid role player away n a better head coach away from annual championship contender .

Perkins isn't the problem on OKC. It's the idiot coach who's played him way too many minutes, especially in important games.

Perkins needs to develop a personality.
