I’m not sure how comparing Kemp and White’s stats answers the question. I’m comparing the reactions. The one comparable fact is that neither are currently good enough to be on our roster, so why is there almost elation and White’s demise and tears at Kemp’s? Whichever way you spin it, our roster improved which each roster move.
I don't disagree with the decision, but loved having Kemp on the team and hope that he finds a team where he gets a great opportunity to prove himself.
Cool cool... not trying to start anything, but I am typically happier when we lose someone bad vs. someone not as bad. Everyone loved Tony and everyone was disappointed in White. Didn't seem like much of a mystery to me. Again, what did you think the reaction was driven by? Just curious...
It's really not hard to see the emotional connection Kemp had both in the clubhouse and with fans. Clearly everybody on the team loved playing with him, and he was a fan favorite because of his size, energy, and effort. Are you really THAT confused by the difference in reaction?
Sad to see Kemp moved but I knew Straw was the better player and the super speedster. I'm sure he'll bring a minor leaguer in return.
There was little to nothing to get excited for with Kemp. He wasn't a great pinch runner or pinch hitter. He was just kind of there. He was underrated for a time, but eventually, he was probably overrated given his limited contribution. And I personally am glad that hugs for homers and shirt ripping is done. I like the camera stare, water cups, and robot dancing. But hugs for homers was like a commitment nobody really wanted. Staw is pretty much the same player with a little less pop, but the speed more than make up for it.
No, not really as I did preface that point in my original post. I was just curious, because the net result is that our net player position roster in now stronger than it has been all season, so both moves were made for the good and the progress of the ballclub.
Kemp was never expected to be a starter... whereas Tyler White was expected to get plenty of starts this year at 1B/DH, and be a weapon against left-handed pitching. From that viewpoint, White was the bigger disappointment from the get-go.
Kemp was like the Astro's version of Pat Beverley. A dude everyone liked that got the absolute maximum out of his skill set. Baseball can be a brutal game sometimes...I wish him all the best.
How can you not miss this?? Doesn’t mean we don’t think it might be the best baseball move, but damn. Why should anyone be surprised that he will be missed?
Really wanted the team to somehow keep Kemp. Hate to see him go. Very easy to root for him. Wish him all the best.
