Green gives you alot of flexibility. He can play 2 or 3 and with an injury to harden or ariza he can start. In small ball, ariza brewer, harden, and green along with harden can be top shelf I'm sorry, and most on this board know i love top shelf athletes with potential. Kj has shown nothing. People are talking about him as if he had a great half of s season. Go look at wesley matthews or chandler parson as 2nd rd picks after their rookie year. This dude was on philly and played bad. Offering him anything would be terrible.
Personally I wouldn't spend a dime over 2 mil to start. If someone wants him for full MLE God Bless them. I would much rather use part of the MLE to sigh the best undrafted pg to a deal. Scour the summer leagues and jump on the best unsigned pg on all the teams and lock them up for a decent starting salary 1-1.5 with a lot of outs for the home team.
Funny how kj has so much upside, yet they want to trade jones who has done alot more and is the same age.
Different players. We have a log jam at PF. We need help at the 2 and 3. It's all about need. TJones is the weakest link in the 4 spot while there is still a ton of upside. KJ helps at the 2 and 3 with his length and ability on the defensive end.
Who's grooming him. Not McHale. He should be given minutes at the 1. He's just as good a distributor as Bev and a better defender. Only he can't hit threes and Bev can... at least a lot better than Nick. Johnson and McDaniel will never really help unless they can shoot an open three. Brewer is an exception because he is one of the best downhill scorers in the league. We can actually work with him if Dmo stretches the floor and Bev is hitting open threes. But Dwight, Tjones brewer Harden and Nick on the floor at the same time, that would be ugly.
He'll get more than 2. And can't help but think Morey will trade for the needed point guard, even if he has to bide his time.
Gerald Green is a possession waster instead of being a possession creator. 3&D players need to be possession creators. That means they have more steals and offensive rebounds than turnovers. We do not want Gerald Green because of that. He is too undisciplined on offense and does play sound hard defense. Sorry. He don't fit m
Year before when green was starting, he played well with dragic. His mid range game was very good which is something the rockets cohld use. What he figured out was once in his spot, he could rise and shoot over anyone. He qas explosive enough to get to the rim,yet a good enough mid range shooter to pull up and create the space. A huge problem with the rockets is the dont have anyone who can create their own shot except harden, howard (sometimes) and terry. They dont run the type of offense like adelman, they triangle, flex, that creates offense for non creators. Thats why their offense is peaks and valleys.
Ya, I also hear he has a great work ethic. Honestly - that's what makes me hopeful he can turn his jumper around. I think at worst he can be a Gerald Green type of athletic bench guy and with some improvement on his shot(which doesn't look broken) he could actually be a valuable bench contributor/borderline starter.
Oh, Green is a great shooter and a great finisher. No doubt about it. But....for his career....season after season...he has constantly been under water in regards to turnovers. He'd have to shoot 58% from the 3-point line to offset all the lost possessions he is responsible for because of turning the ball over. For a 3&D player to be positively productive he's got to offset all (or almost) all his turnovers with offensive rebounds and steals. If he doesn't do that then he's dragging on the team. Green, unfortunately, falls into this category. While Green is the superior shooter to a guy like Brewer, Brewer is the superior positive force on the scoreboard because Brewer is a possession creator. He has more offensive rebounds and steals than he does turnovers. That means that when Brewer is on the court he's going to flip the possessions in favor of the home team. When Green is on the court, he flips the possessions in favor of the opponent because he turns over the ball so much.
Really depends who we have at the guard spot. He could potentially play backup 2 with Terry not playing much at all. We don't need KJ to make buckets, we need him to play defense. If he can have that "94 feet" type of mentality on defense, he can certainly carve out some PT.
KJ can guard three positions, but at 6'6" he's got a chance to be a game-changing defender at the 2. I'm not saying we don't need to add some shooting or a play-making PG; we do. But the guy's arrow is only pointing up, and I see a Klay Thompson killer, so I like. Our backcourt defense gets much better as soon as we lock this kid up. Frankly, I'm shocked he didn't get a little playing time last year.
If McDaniels can improve his 3pt shot, he can could really be useful at 2&3 positions, do to his defensive ability and toughness.
Tjones is on a rookie contract, that contract will expire and somebody will offer him more $$$ than what the Rox can afford for a guy behind Smith and DMo, therefore they want to trade him before he leaves for nothing. KJ oth is not that well known and has not shown anything crazy yet, its doubtful he will receive Brewer money, for example. However "those in the know" realize he is yiung, crazy athletic and has insane work ethic, therefore chances are he will exceed his contract in terms of value to the team. This is why we want him over Green, Green at 29 is what he is and if you sign him you get him at market value, whereas KJ will exceed his market value in a couple of years. Funny how some people have been fans for a long time yet still cant wrap their heads around the financial aspect of bball. This isnt 2k, in real life the $$$ matters a lot.
Terrence Jones is a year older than McDaniels. I have no problem with the Rockets using the MLE to match an offer sheet that K.J. signs. I will be upset if it prevents us from signing Smith (assuming Smith is willing to re-sign here at a discount).
