Watch it be an interview about something other than the Rockets. You know he is not the coach anymore right?
JVG says he didn't think that Sunday was a surprise to him. It was emotional night. Could carry over. Their strength is in their backcourt. And their toughness is in the back court. Kobe doesn't have much shooting help. If they all click, they would beat Houston without Yao Ming each and everytime...on paper. But you can't measure effort. You can have bad nights on offense. Defense doesn't take the night off and when you are a physically tough team, defense is harder to penetrate in the playoffs. The Laker lineup is not as efficient with Fisher being older. Fermer (backup PG...sorry for the SP) is a better shooter but can be outdone by Lowry muscle. Not surprised that they were down by so much (Lakers) in game 4. AB could be used as second scorer and move Scola to 3rd scorer and Landry as scorer off the bench with Wafer. Houston has tons of depth and too bad T-Mac and Yao are hurt. Says this is the best team the Rockets have had (including his coached ones). Give Houston alot of credit with Yao out. Houston used more speed and penetration ability. Can kick out to shooters. Battier has to shoot more and has averaged 17-18pts in a season so just doing 12-15 is a big deal. Lakers problem will continue to be their interior toughness is suspect. Houston, even with Yao out, has brute force. Radio host is suprised Lakers are struggling. Will be stunned if they didn't win in double digits tonight. JVG says he agrees and that Lakers will come out strong. But the thing that troubles JVG on the Lakers is that they lack toughness in the front court. Too many finesse players and skilled players (mentions Gasol) and their one possible tough player is not working out (Bynum). Houston has the players (not great players) but TOUGH players on the floor that can make up and hold on while Lakers make the run. JVG said that notice that even the absolutely GREAT Lakers effort...Kobe still has to work so very hard to get shots. Its all Rockets can do. Mentions Detroit against Jordan before Jordan bulked up. Says Kobe has to be in tremendous shape to handle such good, physical defense. Host asked if he is happy that alot of his players that he picked are on the team. He said that he has a great relationship with them still but that he (JVG) is not the coach. He said he can argue that RA has done a much better job than he did and they have Artest...which is a total RA move and a great one. He still picks the Lakers...gun to his head. But that after tonight, he may reach up and grab the gun and shoot the guy dead. Be careful about Houston. What they lack in talent, they make up in toughness. They have nothing to lose. Funniest part of the interview? He said that he could never do the game with his brother coaching on national television. He would spend half the time in fetal position and that Mark Jackson would make fun of him. When he gets up, his pom-poms would come out of his sleeves colored blue and white. And Mike Breem and Mark Jackson won't be able to hold him back when he climbs over the desk and starts yelling at refs at every bad call!
are you talking about the Bill Simmons podcast with JVG that came out today? its on espn for anyone who is interested wow Dmorey AND JVG in the same 5 day span!?
He was on satellite radio and is going on now to some NBA channel now. Couldn't catch it since I was typing 100 wpm!
The only reason I put JVG interviews because you peeps seem to like him so much. But ok. We can do without the insight. I will start doing Mark Jackson interviews going forward.
Because we thought we got Almu'd. Thanks for the great effort Almu, that was a pretty good interview.
