If Justice Thomas repaid that RV loan, it wasn't with "money"

    RawStory:

Clarence Thomas never repaid a millionaire friend's $267,000 loan which the Supreme Court justice used to buy a 40-foot luxury motorcoach, Senate investigators announced Wednesday.

Healthcare magnate Anthony Welters told the Senate Finance Committee he forgave the RV loan after five years of receiving payments on the interest but not the principal, the report states.

"Now we know that Justice Thomas had up to $267,230 in debt forgiven and never reported it on his ethics forms," Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, (D-OR) said in a statement.

This POS can't even pay off his loan and is "forgiven"..........................I wish I had friends like him. This dude has no place on the Supreme Court, he would fit in very well with the maga crowd though

It’s more than obvious the USSC cannot police itself. Congress also shows no interest in doing anything about the USSC.

If the gop was to force this issue, then they would in turn have to uncover all the crap they do so its easier to just let it go then fix the issue

This is an example of I'll stay out of your business if you stay out of mine - this is the type of corruption that exists in the USA. It isn't as direct and it arguably is less than many other countries - but it exists from the lowest level of government at the township level, all the way up to the SCOTUS. I have seen it at the county and state level - everyone in power knows everyone else in power and they give each other latitude, and when someone new enters the picture, someone already in power vouches for them.

This is REALLY common in the judiciary parts of the government because to get on the courts, you need political and financial support.

It used to be only white men - and it largely is, but now they will play ball with other men that get with the system - there are less women involved in my experience.

It’s basically soft corruption. The Founders believed that each branch would jealously guard their powers so would check the other branches but partisan and ideological influences have meant they frequently collide with each other.

Yes - and it is extremely common in the USA in positions of authority…. police departments, local and state level court systems, low level mayoral and city hall… contractors and local prominent business owners.

Abe Fortis is rolling in his grave. He should have stuck to his guns, made poverty a protected class, and had Nixon follow through on his threat to get him ousted for making a few thou doing guest speeches or something. The country could have been pretty different if inequality protections were extended to poverty impacts.
