We had former NBA player/now Portland Trailblazers Assistant Coach Monty Williams in our studio today for a taping for one of our shows. He was promoting his daily devotional. He is a class act and Has a great story. He was told as a college Freshman that he had to quit playing basketball for good because he had an enlarged muscle in his heart. He sat out two years and prayed with his then-girlfriend/now wife. After the 2nd years, Doctors told him that there was No symptoms of the enlarged muscle anymore. He played his Sr year at Notre Dame and was drafted by NY as the 24th pick in the first round. He then of course spent 9 seasons in the NBA before becoming an assistant for the Trailblazers. I told him about how much respect that Rocket fans gained for the blazers after last years playoffs and he said that it meant a lot to him. We talked for a while, mainly about him coming back after the NBA Season to do another show - this one on Sports and faith. I told him it would be fun to shoot a feature on him coaching a little kids basketball team and he said okay to that as well. He was really a cool guy & even gave me his home and cell #'s so that we could set up our summer shoot.
Yeah, Monty's a class act and a good coach. He'll be an NBA head coach within the next two years or so.
