So i just got my new pc, and B/C of the lame "sleep" mode in vista, it resetted my bios and crashed my raid 5 (Five 1TB hard drive setup with onboard intel raid 5....lucky i didn't add all the data to it). So look like massive download ahead for the next few month :/

    but......

damn whoever came up with this power saving BS!!!!

ps. i could recover the data(like i could see all the directory and files), but its not 100% ......and it take around 13-14 hour to scan all five 1tb hard drive....so beh.

Hear too many bad stories about Vista.

Thinking it will be best to stay with XP until they get their stuff together.

What backup program do you use to back up your 400 GB of data?

Yes. What did you use to backup all that data?

Sounds like you're blaming an operating system you didn't know how to use.

Why do people get so upset about something they know so little about?

Isn't RAID's purpose to replace data quickly?

The other question I have is:

What do you mean it "resetted (sic)" your BIOS and how did that cause you to lose all that data?

I've had no problems with vista since I got it. (knock on wood)

I'm not quite understanding how you lost everything either.

I don't know what I would do if I lost 400 gigs. Probably file for bankruptcy.

I thought RAID setups were supposed to prevent ****ups like this...

If you haven't added any data to your drives, you could probably run HDD recovery software and get some data back.

    p.s.
Did you just lose a whole lotta pr0n?

Well, if Quagmire lost 400 Gigs, his tagline would have to be:

    "ity, ity"

I've heard from several unrelated people that, when they upgraded to Vista, it disabled the on-board sound on their motherboard. It doesn't surprise me at all that it disabled your RAID.

Thankfully, my home computer is not powerful enough. Windows XP is fine with me.

I have 3TB of data. 94% of which is questionable... Should I still use it? :)

Based on reviews, if you lost 3TB of data, it would take Carbonite, 200 days to completely restore your data. It would also take 1500 days to completley back up your system as it will only transfer 2 GB per day.

Hardware raid is not a good idea for home systems. Raid cards uses proprietary metadata to identify the raid drives and lays data down in a proprietary way. If the card fails, you have to find the exact same card to replace it with and that is only if the card supports importing foreign drives.
