This sucks so much. Just saw the video of his mother breaking down on the podium, incredibly heart-breaking.

    Sad, sad, sad day.

so basically the NFL will lose popularity in America.

The NBA and MLB are licking their chops.

I suspect that the NFL will attempt to make the changes gradual so they can hold on to there MASSIVE popularity...

Agree with rezdawg. This will blow up and become a huge story but the reality is there were probably a lot of factors contributing to this, not the least of which is adjusting to life after football.

Guys like this start playing football at a very young age, 13 or 14 if not earlier, and for the guys that are this good it takes over their life. High school, college, and then their pro career; all focused on football. They get immersed in it and there is no reality other than football. I can imagine it would be very tough to try to adjust without it.

    RIP

Christ, some sad news. Seau was a tough guy to root against. Hopefully he finds the peace that he never could after football :(

No it's not. Even if they hit just as hard they will do less damage because they aren't wearing weapons.

bashing your skull into somebody else's skull??? that's not going to cause any damage?

can you imagine just your average play with the offensive and defensive lines clashing? there would be broken orbital bones and cracked jaws and teeth knocked out routinely.

getting rid of equipment would be the craziest idea ever, and it will never happen.

I think you need to go back and read a little more carefully.

It's more about vulnerability of the tackler.

If you ensure that the tackler is limited by their own mortality, then they're not going to try to deliberately injure people, because the act of trying to deliberately injure somebody would result in injuring themselves in the process.

It slows down the speed of the game as a whole with the concept of mutually assured destruction, and would be a step in the right direction, among several other rule changes that are needed.

Johnny Cash singing made me think of Prototype 2 ...anyways, random ikr,...this is pure speculation bout football causing him to off himself. People know smoking can kill you but still do it, just have new players sign waivers which state they realize the job is inherent of hazards which may lead to lasting effects adversely affecting health ...problem solved ...

Really? Problem solved just like that by signing a piece of paper?
