Anybody watched this game? Read the report saying the Hawks doubled Carmelo using JR's man. Wow. Is that suicidal or what?

Granted, JR isn't shooting as well this year as he's shot last year, but even then, he's still known as a sparkplug scorer. Silly, silly move.

There was talk of the Rockets being interested in him a couple years back I think. Makes me wonder how potent he'd make our offense had we signed him. A lot of shortcomings still (no D, questionable rebounding), but he has tools that put Ariza to shame.

The Hawks lost by 20 points so I don't know how much shooting in the foot they could have done by the 4th quarter.

Earl Smith is a streaky shooter. He's like a modern day Vernon Maxwell

Thankfully, I missed this one. Second night of a back-to-back on the road against a good team. I kind of figured they would drop this one. Now, doubling Melo all night using JR's man? That's not exactly the best idea in the world.

Let's not jump overboard here. We're talking about two entirely different players. Ariza at least plays two-way basketball and will fill up the stat-sheets whenever his shot isn't falling. JR is a bonehead and a complete zero whenever his shot isn't going in. Yeah, he can absolutely kill you sometimes but this Denver team has always brought him off the bench for a reason.

Well...calling Von a poor man's JR Smith would be flattering him.

In hindsight, perhaps not the most adequate to compare JR and Ariza.

One of you mentioned Maxwell. That would be an apt comparison, though I think JR is definitely more explosive as a player.

Hahahaha. Thanks for posting this. I completely forgot about this. I remember watching that game and as soon as I saw that I thought he looked like this:

Ariza isn't a two-way player. He is a black hole on offense.

I would start Budinger and have JR Smith coming off the bench and trade Ariza for a bag of Doritos.

I seem to remember when New Orleans offered up both JR and Kirk Snyder for trades, the Rockets chose Snyder because JR was too much of a head case.

    Heh.

I never said he was. I was responding to a comment that Ariza was, in fact, a two player. He is not. His numbers prove that.

Have you even watched JR Smith? He's a hell of a scorer and does it fairly efficiently. I would define a "black hole" on offense as someone who clogs the offense and doesn't score efficiently. That would be Ariza.

JR Smith scores 16 ppg in 26 minutes on 44% shooting. Trevor Ariza scores 16.6 ppg in 39 minutes on 38% shooting. There's no comparison between the two on offense.

    JR is a one-way player

    Ariza is a zero-way player.

    how so?

JR Smith isn't a bad defender when he's locked in. He just making a ton of dumb mental mistakes.

Ok, I guess that does make him a bad defender.
